Usually a tortilla press is used for that.

I used to do this every day. This is the true "American" way :-)

When it comes time to press the balls into tortillas, First I flatten the ball a bit with my hands (so its easier to roll) then I roll the tar out of them with a heavy wooden rolling pin. Don't use one that you care about, because it takes a HUGE amount of pressure--like all you've got, and I would be afraid it may break. A trick--don't flour the counter too heavily, so the dough sticks a little. That way it won't shrink back so much.

Have your pan hot before you roll the first. It will only take 6-10 passes with the rolling pin. You will probably have to flip it once or twice-just feel it out. When its about the right size, unstick it from the counter and throw it - quickly-into your hot pan.

**You want it paper thin, or you'll have more of a pita than tortilla.

That's My way of rolling tortillas.

Authentic tortilla's are made with a rolling pin that is thin. I have a neighbor that uses a dow rod about the size of the top of a window shade.

get a metal tortilla press. YOu put the wad of dough in the middle (sometimes slightly off center, you have to play around) and then PRESS HARD! out comes a flat tortilla ready to be pan-seared.

Starting from the left hand side, roll up like a jelly roll.
