they only have the Bible to defend their faith and back-up their beliefs, what if Satan is using the Scriptures to them and is leading them to somewhere else but heaven, how can they know if they are being mislead?

(not that I care. I'm just wondering)

There is a good example of Satan quoting scripture in Matt 4:5-6, where Satan quotes Psalm 91:11-12.

Then the devil took him to the holy city and had him stand on the highest point of the temple. "If you are the Son of God," he said, "throw yourself down. For it is written:
" 'He will command his angels concerning you,
and they will lift you up in their hands,
so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.'"

You've posed an interesting argument against sola scriptura, the error of Martin Luther picked up by Protestants as an article of faith. Satan can indeed quote scripture, and if the only answer is to quote a different scripture (equal but not better than Satan's scripture), there is no way to authoritatively reject Satan's message.

Jesus did not teach Bible-only (since at that time, there was no New Testament), and he demonstrates by his scripture interpretations that more that scripture is needed. For example:

Matthew 19:8: Jesus replied, "Moses permitted you to divorce your wives because your hearts were hard. But it was not this way from the beginning."

Here Jesus overruled nearly all divorces, even though divorce-on-demand is found in Old Testament scripture (Deut 24:1-4).

Jesus, not the Bible, is the Word of God (John 1), and his teachings take precedence over others recorded in the Bible. To know his teachings, we need the continuous historical witnesses of the one Church he established and empowered (see Matt 16:18-19).

Just in case fundamentalists reading this haven't yet lost it, a final word: Exalting the Bible over Christ Jesus as the Word of God is idolatry.

Cheers,
Bruce

Even 2 corinithians 11:14 says he can transform himself into an angel of light. So limited to a book, no not necessarily so.. Because God goes beyond a book, he is a spirit, a creator. And a snake can only hide his real self for but so long.. Because whats in the dark will ALWAYS come to the light. And he gives us wisdom to discern the two: both good and evil. Satan preys on everyone... Just pray for the ones who don't even know.

Many can quote scriptures from the Bible... it is possible.

But this 'many' do not share the same interpretation or accept the implied interpretation to accommodate their own personal opinions.

But then again, also, many under the guidance of the Holy Spirit can fully grasp the message told in the scriptures.

Quoting scriptures is easy. Understanding the whole Bible, in accordance to the way it was written not on a biased interpretation, is a Gift.

for the person above, who mentioned something about Baptism and the Trinity:

Read Matthew 28: 18 - 19.
"" Then Jesus approached and said to them, "All power in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit,...""

Lol, you fundamentally lack the understanding of what Salvation even is. Salvation isn't earned by knowing the Bible. You aren't going to use the Bible to defend yourself to God.

Salvation comes because Christ who was without sin died as though He was full of sin, and then because He was guiltless, the Father raised Christ from the dead.

Now, we go to heaven simply because we choose to go with Christ. We don't go to heaven because of our ability to out-argue Satan.

In fact, there is no argument you can give to God. God has already told us that not one person will ever pass judgement, so, arguing yourself out of hell simply isn't going to work.

It's simply accepting and following Christ and repentance, which means to literally turn your back on all of your sin and anything that is wrong in the eyes of Christ. That is it. It's a simple choice. That's Salvation. The rest of it, the reward, how much you get as a reward, authority, and whatever else, that has to do with what you justly deserve outside of Salvation. Salvation can't be earned or argued, or won.

It is simply chosen or rejected.

There is no way they can be misled because Bible-fundies are NEVER wrong about anything. Everything they think and say, and every opinion they have is the "absolute truth."

Apparently, all you have to do is interpret the Bible 100,000 different ways...then put all those conflicting interpretations together to make "absolute truth." This is the new way of doing things, divinely given to us in the 16th century.

All of us who stick to the same Biblical interpretations of the early Christians are supposedly the ones being misled by satan. Oh well, I suppose they didn't know any better...they were around when the Bible was compiled, and it took more than 1,000 years to learn how to read the Bible the "proper" way.

It is up to the individual believer, and the Church as a whole to "test the spirits". The way you counter a false use of scripture is with a correct use of scripture. Don't believe me? How about the apostle Paul: "Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth." For Paul the word of truth was scripture. Jesus held people accountable for not rightly understanding and applying scripture. The bible is replete with admonishments to study scripture, and to discern the meaning correctly. God would not command his elect to know and understand the scripture if they did not have that ability.

I think they are going to be in for a very rude awakening.

Picture this - Pastor A is telling his group that baptism is not necessary, while Pastor B is telling his group that it is necessary, but only to prove your faith; while Pastor C is telling his group that it's only necessary for whatever reason...etc etc etc.

Now multiply that by the 30,000 different denominations and alleged non-denominations and 20 different doctrines...holy moly! We got a heck of a mess!

Of course.
Considered that many our Christian scholars until now, are still trying to find the word "I am a God", but to no avail in any versions of the Bible that has been existed today. We have studied the Buddha's bible, Hindhu's, Shinto's, Islam's and whatever so-called bible, there is a word saying "I am a God", but you can never find it in the Christian's bible. Why? It's an easy word, a little word to convince the human kind, but there aren't any. Is the bible the Word of God? Can it still be called 'Holy'?
Think again.
