This is for my first Nano attempt next month and getting some fresh hand research. If you're involved with a car chase (as a cop) and have a baby in the car, what do you do? My FMC has one for my novella I'm going to start next week, next month, and is in pursuit (since she's a cop) of a speeder. P.S. What are the kinds of hit-and-run crimes besides hit and run? (Professional cops and law enforcement officials please.)

My FMC is back to work from maternity leave, and is about to show her co-workers her son, when this police chase happens.

Okay. She's on her way back to work to drop it off at day care, when a speeder went pass a red light. It happens en route on her way to work. Is that any clearer

No cop anywhere is going to start a pursuit based only on a vehicle blowing through a red light. Department policy for all PD's that i know of prohibits pursuits for traffic infractions, many also prohibit for property only crimes.
Hit & Run crimes-leaving scene of property accident accident & leaving scene of accident involving injury.

I'm not sure I follow, why would a cop have a baby in their car?
A cop would not transport an infant in a squad car since child seats in the front seat of a car are illegal and there are no restrainst in the rear, nor is it legal for a baby to be in the backseat of a patrol car at any time. Further, even if the officer was breaking the law by transporting her infant in such a way, then she would not engage in a chase, especially not for speeding or a traffic signal infringement. She would radio out, perhaps, but would not pursue.

Boy,,,,I HATE to agree with a cop.
But Josh has a valid point.
Cant cops afford daycare?
Or did the baby steal a car or something???
Was the little child cuffed???
She is an idiot!!!
Her first priority in life is her child's life not some speeder......Sounds like a crime has been committed against her child ...child endangerment!
