I usually used blunt tipped Adson forceps, another name for an expensive tweezer. If I couldn't get the jaws of the forceps around the pebble, I next tried to suction it out using a soft tip connected to a suction pump. If that didn't work, I dried the pebble and naris (nostril) as well as I could, then put a dab of super glue on the wooden end of a cotton swab and glued it to the pebble. When that failed, I went into the next room out of earshot of mother and child, uttered a few expletives, and sent the patient to the ENT up the street.
Seriously, you don't want to push the pebble farther up the nose. You only make removal more difficult, and you could conceivably push it into the nasopharynx where it could drop into the windpipe, leading to dangerous aspiration.

An Ear, Nose, Throat (ENT) specialist has special tools to view inside the nostril. Like a speculum for the nostril ha ha. They also have special tweezers for reaching. HOWEVER I had to take my 2 1/2 yr old to the ER a couple of months ago because she stuck a craft gem up her nostril after business hours. We ended up laying her down, holding one nostril closed, and blowing hard into her mouth which made the gem shoot out of the nostril she stuck it in. No tools necessary.

a rock? are you sure it wasnt a pebble? doctors have all kinds of instuments to get into the nasal cavity, one looks like a long narrow tweezer, the doctor probably sprays a medication up the nose to help loosen the object, then with this tweezer he gently inserts it into the nose and takes that object (a pebble) out of the childs nose.

WIth very long tweezers. If they cannot reach it they have to do a small surgery.
My husband stuck an eraser up his nose as a kid, so ive heard this account many times :)

My Son got mad when someone took his big wheel, so he shoved rocks up his nose!!! We tryed 4 adults holding him down trying to get them out with tweezers. NO GO!!! So we took him to the ER - The Dr. asked him if he knew who Josie the Whale was and he said yes, so the Dr. said I want you to blow like Josie the Whale, and into the tissue they came!!!

Very carefully!! When my stepdaughter did it... the Dr. put a small drop of a superglue-like-stuff and stuck it to the rock for just a second and slowly pulled it out!! She is five and had to set very still!! Don't you just love it when kids ask you question that you don't know the answer to!

With long and skinny tweezers. My husband stuck a crayon in his nose as a toddler and this is how they removed it. It's funny how little kids are fascinated with their noses. Hehe.

It depends how far up it is. This is just a guess, but if it was barly in there (and visible) they would probebly have to use tweezers. The farther up though, the higher the chance they may have to use surgery.

There is an instrument that has a very narrow slot at the end of it, they probably inserted that in the nostril and scooted the rock till it came out on its own...that's what they used on my son when he inserted rocks in his ears.
