will have braces put on in 2 months, is it ok to have teeth whitened professionally before the braces go on?

I would wait until after the braces come off. Braces make cleaning teeth much more difficult and will almost certainly have a discoloring effect.

After they come off, go have a cleaning done and then whiten.

I have just had my braces removed and, although it is never a bad thing to want your teeth to look good - after all, that is what your braces are for - I would, personally, find it a waste of money until your braces are taken off. It is time-consuming enough to clean your teeth with the braces on, never mind the extra work you'll have to put in to reap the benefits of having your teeth whitened. As with a previous answer, a Waterpik works wonders for looking after you teeth. Especially for someone with braces.

Trust me, the time it takes to straighten your teeth will whoosh by. It will be worth waiting for. You may even find that you'll accept the look of your newly-straightened teeth and not feel the need for whitening. Or, you could go the opposite way and go 'all out' and treat your teeth, LOL.

Yeah it is. But one of my cousins is a dentist and one of my uncles is an orthodontist. And I was going to do the same thing as you until I talked to them. See you get them whitened and then you get the braces on. Then you have to be so consistant and perfect when the braces are on with brushing and flossing. Even if you are and your great, you will have atleast 1 or 2 teeth with a couple marks on them. So I talked to them off and on and stuff and we decided to wait til after I got my braces off. They both live in SC and I live in MO but I was in SC all summer so I got my braces off with my uncle then went and got my teeth whitened with my cousin.
They both agree that everyone should wait til after they get their braces off. It is somewhat pointless to get it before the braces. Just do a good job brushing and flossing now and when you have the braces... then you can get them even whiter after you get them off!!

Good Luck :)

I've heard that whitening your teeth will make them really sensative. I don't know if it would be such a good idea. It would probably be better to do it after you get the braces off.

It would probably be best if you didnt... i mean when you have braces its harder to brush so your teeth MIGHT get slightly more yellow then they were before, so it would probably be smarter if you whitened them after when you have nice and straight PERFECT teeth <:o)

yes it is ok to have you r teeth whitened before braces or after wards is fine to but the best route to take is to talk to your ortho and you and him make a plan of action or if no ortho yet talk to your dentist

BE SURE YOU BRUSH VERY WELL BECAUSE THOSE WHO DON'T MAY DEVELOP DE-CALCIFICATION WHERE THE BRACKETS WERE.
SO WHAT?
WHEN THE BRACES COME OFF THERE WILL BE WHITE SPOTS WHERE THE BRACKETS WERE. BLEACHING YOUR TEETH WILL ONLY MAKE THEM MORE VISIBLE.
DO YOURSELF A GOOD SERVICE AND BUY AND USE A WATERPIK. OVER THE LONG TIME WITH BRACES THIS WILL BE THE BEST THING YOU CAN DO FOR YOURSELF. GOOD LUCK :-)

Yes, especially if it is done professionally. Those treatments are really spendy though and not covered by most insurances.

Sure it is. You should have your dental office do it there for you.

Yes, but why aren't you asking your doc?
