dont know how old your cat is, but when i got my kitten at about 8 wks old he had TONS of fleas and I bought this flea shampoo (which shampoo is more of a pain to do than just putting frontline on i know) but when I washed him with it, every flea it touch died! Now, I did wait after his bath when he settled down and picked all the dead ones off with tweezers, but it worked really well. It is called De Flea pet shampoo. Kills fleas on contact for use only on dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens.
its is "Natural Chemistry" brand.
One bad thing about it, was once i started washing his body, some of the fleas tried to rush to his face where i hadnt put any yet, so if you do try it, i would suggest washing the face FIRST.
be gentle though, a bath can be a very startling thing for a kitten

It sounds like fleas and the black dots are "flea dirt". The vet can give you something for them. Young kittens cannot be given Frontline or Advantage as those meds are too strong for them. The vet should tell you what to do. But I'm glad you're taking the kitten in as fleas are life-threatening to a tiny kitten.
Worst scenario, you would give the kitten a bath using Dawn dish soap as it will kill the fleas without harming the kitten.
Be sure there aren't fleas in your carpet and where the kitten lays. If there are, you'll have to get rid of those, too, or the kitten will just be reinfested with them.
Best of luck. Congrats on the new kitten!
P.S. You should complain to whomever sold you the kitten about the fleas. They should have taken care of those before they sold the kitten.

The black dogs are flea dirts (poos). You can't see flea eggs or larvae, they're microscopic.
You can never tell how bad an infestation is going to get, or how sensitive to the fleas your pet might be. It's not important really - the only important thing is to get the fleas sorted BEFORE you find out if it's going to be a major issue!
Please do be sure to only use veterinary treatments, since flea treatments from pet stores don't work. Pet stores aren't licensed to sell the proper chemicals for flea treatment - anything you find in store is just going to be a basic pesticide that you can't expect to work.

The black dots may be flea poop. I would take her to a vet, because fleas can get so bad that they can actually kill a kitten. They suck the blood out of them, and being that kittens are so small, fleas are worse on them than on an adult animal.

A 'never fail' way to get rid of fleas on kittens / cats.... vegitable oil ! Put it all over it's body, and rub it in to the skin....it smothers the fleas and they come right off. Once you see the fleas rise to the surface, make sure they're dead, and you can either use an old towel, and wipe them down to get some of the oil off....then THEY can do the rest of the cleaning of themselves. It's just vegie oil, so it's nothing that will hurt them to lick off.

If your kitten is an outside cat it will always have fleas. no way to escape it. but if you really want to rid your cat of this vermin just get a kitten flea wash and it will be over. fleas always want to stay on the kitten they go up to both ends to get moisture and when they get hungry they bite into the skin for blood. as soon as you start the wash make sure she stays in the water the fleas will come to the top and flush them away. you may require to go it again later but it is a very simple matter of keeping them inside they will be around for much longer and be better pets.

Take it to the vets or the groomers right away if they're bad, and if they are bad you'll probaly need to visite more than once. the vet/groomers will give your kitten a flea bath and trust me you'll do a world of good by doing this because fleas are very stressful to animals.

just about the only thing you can do depending on her age (if she is under 12 weeks of age) there isnt too much you can do other than bathe her until all of the fleas drown...
