Unplug everything, power up, increase volume see if faults. If fault replace or repair. Doesn't continue test as follows.

Add input devices, one at time, one cable at time, repeat power up and look for fault. If fault check device and frog cables and input section on receiver.

Add speakers one at a time. turn volume up see if faults. Check all wiring and frog speakers.

More than likely you have over driven the amp to damage. repair should be easy but look at replacing.

My guess is the receiver is going into "Protect" mode because it is over-heating.

The most common reason - you have a tiny strand of copper speaker wire sticking out somewhere and creating a short-circuit between the red and black speaker terminals.

You need to look in 2 places:

- The "forest" of speaker binding posts on the back of the receiver.

- Behind each speaker.

I strongly recommend you do a fall tune-up. Go behind each speaker and disconnect the wires, strip the insulation to expose shiny copper, and re-attach. Be very careful to do a neat job with no exposed copper wires. The dual banana plugs from Radio Shack (or the single ones) help you do a neat wire job.

Then repeat behind the receiver.

If the problem still persists - one of your speakers may have shorted internally.

Try disconnecting the 2 rear speakers. If the problem goes away - one of them is bad. Repeat with the L/R fronts if needed, then try the center.

Eventually you will narrow down the problem.

tuning is NEVER by the book-it is done according to where & when you ride and what condition you bike is in. jetting is a variable, as are needle heights and idle speeds etc. The figures given are a guide for normal use at sea level, but can be terribly wrong in some markets. NEVER be afraid to rejet and re-tune a bike for your use. Always rejet and retune after exhaust, motor or carb mods. The float height is a consistent thing, don't usually change it. floatbowls should only ever be made larger, not smaller than std, or the mixture will alter too much on acceleration or at speed. How clean are your baffles-DON'T run without them, both. sounds like you're running rich as....... do check your air filter for clean, and if its paper, age. old paper filters don't work well.
