There are different program available for addicts. AA / NA definitely works for some people. Others may be helped through another approach.

The important thing it 1) to want to overcome the addiction and 2) to get professional help (with peer support), find the approach that works for you, and stick with it.

12 step programs are good, if not great, for some people. However, some people find the whole concept of admitting your sins to a higher power offending. And still some others just want to go to the bar after AA meetings because all they do is talk about how great it was when you were drunk. Makes you want to drink again. If 12 step works for you, more power to you. If not, you are not alone. There are plenty of addicts who have gone clean without using the 12 steps.

No, even AA's own site says so. I looked for just a second and can't find it again, but it is there. There is an interview with a Harvard professor who is an MD and was on their board or something. In the interview he gives the stats and they are not good, about 40% of people in recovery go to AA/NA and only a fraction, about 10%, of those stay clean and or sober. I have had past problems and went to NA and hated it. It seems like all people do is whine and ***** and moan about how their jobs sucks or their cat died or their boyfriend is mean. How does that help me? Another thing I can't stand is the incessant parroting of cliches and catchphrases. I could go on all day, but I won't. The bottom line is, if you want to get clean, you will. If you don't NA won't help and neither will anything else. For some people it works greta, for most it doesn't. If you need help, try it, it can't hurt. For me though, it didn't work. There are many other programs and groups out there. Celebrate Recovery is a Chistian based gruop that I go to and love it. It is much more positive than NA. This is just one man's opinion though.

P.S. If you or someone you know needs help, feel free to email me. I will give you any info I have or any other help you need.

Yes it keeps them alive and they meet others in the same condition. Being organized is so important in human life. Does it deal with the issue behind the addiction? No but the group will help out if the addict is not too demanding and will accept the group leadership.

that's for the reason which you somewhat do not want any help. So attempt some greater controlled eating. while the discomfort on your lifestyles gets undesirable sufficient, then maybe you would be keen to objective something to make the discomfort cease. Even a 12-step software.

Yes, if they really want to succeed.

No if they are forced into it.

All depends on the person. Overall no--need a full detox 60 + days.
