There are those stickers in America saying 'Have you thanked a green plant today?' and I was wondering- why do we have to thank them? =]

Also without green plants there would only be bacteria and fungus to eat. Plus any animals that might have survived eating only bacteria and fungus... ikkkkkk..

To be sincere, i think plants do not contribute significantly to purification of air. This is a propaganda that has been spread for a long time. Look at the photosynthetic equation. 6 CO2 + 12 H2O → C6H12O6 + 6 O2 + 6 H2O. Do you realise that inorder to release six molecules of oxygen, the plant has to use 6 molecules of oxygen. The benefit of plants are mainly in conservation of water, habitats for flora and fauna, beauty, food, etc... and that is why we should plant them... not for cleaning air.

Because plants provide fresh oxygen for us to breathe. Without plants, we would die.
