This is simply a statement used for the sole purpose of convincing people to go with the majority opinion. It also sounds more definitive than 86%, which statistically, it is.

As far as your question goes, this statement is usually made to promote dental hygiene products, thus the alternative wouldn't be living dangerously anyway... it would equate to a personal opinion of the other dentists based on taste, color or texture or other similar non-medicinal variable.

Advertisers simply cite dentists because it is perceived that dentists would be interested in the health benefits of the particular products. But this is usually not the case because most toothpastes, oral washes etc have pretty much the same result when used properly. Dentists are interested in whether or not you are actually brushing your teeth, flossing etc, than any particular product, which is why these ads come down to personal preference of the particular dentist.

Dentist #7 was the one that fell asleep on the wrong switch. In some cases it is good to be different, but in this case it would be better to follow the crowd

no you eat with your mouth, kiss, talk, and blow raspberries at people why would you trust the ducky dentist when the other six agree and he is the only oddball. think of it this way you will lose your teeth possibly get some sick mouth sickness and so on and so forth.
