He didn't start out evil - God created him as a good angel; he occupied the highest position in Heaven just under God Himself; he was beautiful to behold. Unfortunately, he let his beauty and position go to his head; he began to believe that he could do a better job of running the universe than God. He curried the sympathy of several angels of Heaven, and eventually led a revolt that resulted in him and 1/3 of the angels of Heaven getting kicked out, down here to Earth, where they go around tempting Mankind to sin left and right. Satan hates God and Man, and will do anything in his power to destroy us, just to get back at God, because He knows that we are His most prized possession. Satan knows now that he has only a little time left, since he was defeated at the cross 2,000 years ago. He knows that Christ is coming back soon, so he's been stepping up the heat against humanity, which is why we are seeing evil reach a new crescendo on this Earth.

Lucifer, the son of the morning, became Satan, so called here on earth, when he rebelled against God's plan and tried to make himself like unto God. He was prideful and so lost his inheritance. His rebellion caused 1/3 of God's children to follow him and the became Satan's angels to tempt and torment mankind, thus creating opposition for us to choose between good and evil and learn by our own experience the difference.

Lucifer is just another name used once in the Bible for Satan.

A rebellious angel became Satan when he became jealous of the worship God would receive from his human creation. Satan means Opposer.

The angel, as he originally was, is never named.

That's just a story made up by Christians. Lucifer was never a person or character. Lucifer was the name for the planet Venus, which appeared in the sky in the early morning. The planet appeared blue and stood out from the rest of the stars, so it was considered to be a star of beauty (though not actually a star at all of course). The term Lucifer used in the bible was used as a mockery of the king of babylon, who apprently thought he was beautiful. The connection to Satan came from a slight similarity between this single verse in Isaiah and a new testament verse claiming that Satan fell from heaven like a bolt of lightning. Using their wild imgainations, Christians assumed these similarities meant that the story of the king of Babylon was a parallel story to the fall of Satan from heaven. They then assumed out of pure ignorance that the term Lucifer must have been the former name of Satan, when he was an angel in heaven. They are, however, quite wrong but continue to believe the story out of ignorance and a lack of concern for historical truth.

The motive for Satan's rebellion may very well be found in the following verses.

"How you have fallen from heaven, O star of the morning, son of the dawn! You have been cut down to the earth, You who have weakened the nations! 13"But you said in your heart, ‘I will ascend to heaven; I will raise my throne above the stars of God, And I will sit on the mount of assembly In the recesses of the north. 14‘I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High.’" (Isaiah 14:12-14).

In the future, there will be a judgment where the devil will be cast out :

"And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him" (Rev. 12:9).

Lucifer was one of God's most beautiful angels. He was the Chief Musician in Heaven. But, since He was so beautiful, he was also very prideful. He wanted to be worshiped and exalted above God, so God had him thrown out of heaven. When he left, 1/3 of the angels went with him. These are now called the "fallen angels" which are now chained up in Tartarus.

Satan means slanderer of God. Lucifer became Satan when he lied to Eve, telling her that God was a liar and that if she ate of the tree of life she 'would positively not die' (Genesis 2). He continued to slander God and still does to this day, causing people like the poster above to spout anti God rubbish.

Satan was called Lucifer in the pre-mortal existence, just as Jesus was called Jehovah.

Lucifer was Gods most beautiful and beloved angel. He was starting a rebellion against God, to take over. For his betrayal God cast him to hell.
