I think the most realistic movies made are: We Were Soldiers, Hamburger Hill, Black Hawk Down and Saving Private Ryan.
I enjoyed the others you mentioned, but one Civil War movie you didn't list that was really good and from the research I did was fairly accurate was Andersonville.
I am surprised you didn't mention Band of Brothers. Although there were many Airborne units that trained and jumped into Normandy and were as close knit as the company depicted in the movie, they were the ones that got all the attention. It was very common for Airborne units to be that close. First, they were the pioneers of the American Army to test, develop and use parachuting to enter the battle, so there was a certain amount of pride there, plus they got to blouse their boots, had the Airborne/glider patch for their cap, and the mighty jump wings on their chest.

Even though it is not actually a movie but a 10 hour series, Band of Brothers is by far the best war film ever made.

If you like Vietnam movies read "The things they carried". A true account of life in Vietnam. It's very well written and gives you the feeling of being there. I know someone that served and they recommended it. Sorry this is off topic but it just came to mind.
