People like to feel they are correct about the ways they believe, especially when it comes to their kids. If they are wrong in their beliefs then they would not be doing right by their kids.
You are correct when you say that just because something worked for them, doesn't necessarily mean it will work or is right for you. You could always give a try to what someone suggests. If it doesn't work or feel right for you, you can always go back to your own way.

Well, babies are not borne with instruction books attached to their butts, so Have to go with instinc. You seem to be on a rant about milk under 1year old. We are on baby #10 and we have never been told not to give a baby at any age milk, in faact we have had 2 Doctors (one a pediatricion) tell us that if the baby is on solid food and eating well, Milk is is fine.
Please quote your source (study, ect) to show your stance on not giving under 1 milk.

You're mostly correct, that people will tell you their way is the only and correct way.
But have you tried doing your own homework, to check the facts with your doctor or a Google search? If you're only getting anecdotal messages from a few friends or Yahoo Answers, you're missing boatloads of good information, based on research, facts and expert opinions.
Do your own research.

That's funny. I'm going through the same thing. What really amazes me is the people that used to complain about people telling them what to do are now telling me what to do. I've found the best thing to do is to politely listen, thank them and do what you feel is best. There are as many different ways to raise a child as there are parents. Only your gut instincts can tell you if what you are doing is right.

For your information ...my grandmother had to give my dad whole milk before the age of one because that was the only thing that he could keep in his stomach..and guess what..she talked the the doctor and the doctor said it was okay...and the doctor is not always right..what do you think that mothers feed their babies before the age of one who could not take breastmilk for whatever reason?? They didn't get fed??

:) That's right.
Just because you do something with a higher risk attached and it doesn't happen to have a negative side effect doesn't mean that what you did was right.
I have a dear friend who smoked and drank throughout her last pregnancy because it was a surprise and she 'didn't want to be pregnant anyway'. Her son is an honors student and a star athlete. That doesn't make the smoking and drinking right - it just means they were damned lucky.

You're right it doesn't. Every parent needs to make the choices they fedl are best for their child. No one else can tell them what to do, only offer advice, suggesstions and shared what worked for them. Lighten up - too many people want to be the perfetc parent, there is no such thing.
However, if you don't want advice don't ask someone for their opinion. It is just that, an opinion.

Once you have a child, and are with them 24 hours a day 7 days a week, you begin to feel like an expert on them. When really each parent is an expert to their own child, just as you are an expert to yours.

No. Every Dr. and every study on the subject says to wait until the baby is 1 to give cow's milk.
The reason is tree fold:
1. Cow's milk does not have the amount of fat, iron and nutrients that breast milk and formula does. So if you feed a baby under one with milk, you will essentially robing your baby of nutrients he/she needs and under-nourishing him.
2. Babies are not able to fully digest cow's milk until they are 1, the age in which their stomachs are mature enough to do so, with exception of lactose intolerant ones off course.
3. Allergies. Milk is one of the most common foods babies are allergic to. I know of a 5 month old who died because he was fed cow's milk and had an allergic reaction.
I think that the reason people try to give it earlier is because formula is so expensive. I call those people, selfish parents who will not hesitate to expend the money on something else stupid like a pair of shoes but hey, $25 for a can of formula for the kid is too much...
