as if they should all be lumped together? It seems to me that people of the Christian (or any other, for that matter) faith must, at least, be divided into two categories. The first, which I'll call them the "normals," use the bible and religious belief as a source of strength and inspiration as a opposed to the dogmatic truth. The normals have various degrees of religious faith, but respect others for their faith (or lack thereof), and strongly believe in separation of church and state. They believe in the importance of the here and now, rather than dwell on the after-life.

Compare this to the second group, which I'll call the "crazies." If you don't believe in what they do, you're condemned to an eternity of torment in hell. The bible is not only the spiritual truth, but the scientific one as well. Science itself is the "devil's tool" when it contradicts the bible, and they're far more concerned about the after-life than the here-and-now.

Accurate?

No I'd say there are two types of Christians. Scriptural - they have atoned through Christ and seek sanctification through the Holy Spirit. And the other kind is Social, they think reading the Bible, going to church, and praying with the family makes you a Christian. Just try to be good and God will overlook the rest. The crazies you speak of are more social then scriptural.

It would drive anyone crazy trying to keep up with living the way the bible stipulates with all the contradictions. So are the crazies the true Christians at whom the questions are aimed?

I don't think it is unfair to ask someone why they hold their beliefs.

As for making statements, when I refer to Christians it really makes not difference if they are normals or crazies. They both hold faith in something that can not be proven at all. What's worse is the normals can accept that their book is riddled with inaccuracies but they still choose to believe in the basic belief system.

Not exactly accurate, there are hundreds of denominations within Christianity, but of course they can all be "lumped together" because fundamentally they are all types of Christian. In order to ask a simple direct question why shouldnt people be allowed to use the word Christian. Accept it we all make generalisations sometimes. You have made several in your question!

So you think that Christians only fall into two groups..."normals" and "crazies"?
