I'm going to Shanghia in a few weeks and am wondering if there is anything I should definitely seek out to purchase. Specifically ,what should I look to purchase that I would not be able to get in the United States or would be able to get that would be very unique.

Lots of choices. Why not sweets and other treats? It is always fun to go back home and start sampling all these unusual treats with friends and family, sometimes it is surprising to say the least. On my last visit, I brought back dozens of small vacuum packed bags containing what I thought were chewy candies, chocolates and dried fruits inside Of course, I couldn't read what was written on the packages. Turned out they were preserved liver, heart, wings, necks, and other parts from chicken, turkey, ducks, etc. It was quite interesting, some of them were quite good actually...
But while you are there, try as many Shanghai snacks as you can, they are cheap and mostly delicious. My all-time favourite are roasted sparrow on a skewer...

A human being. It is my understanding you can pick one up cheap. They make great gifts so you may want to pick up a few. Make sure to get them all the same gender or one may get impregnated during the journey home. I hear there is some cool silk stuff in Shanghai, too.

look for Nanxiang Xiaolongbao 南翔小笼包，damn good dumplings!

ummmmm gold that's reaching a thousand an oz. now, and could go up even bigger, the rustic is in detrimental shape, our greenback is falling like a penny from a skyscraper, I see melancholy, not Recession sooner or later for us. thank you Georgie boy!!!!!!!!!
