You cannot tell! Usually one bout of extreme pain in your life and you will ball crying. If you have another bout of extreme pain, then you might compare it with the first bout and think, 'It was not as bad as that'. In reality it could be twice as severe, but in your mind you do not think so. Depending on what pain you are exposed to during your life, for example I have Rheumatoid Arthritis and prolapsed disc, my pain threshold is high. I know because when I have blood withdrawn or an injection, they usually state 'you will feel a pinch' before they stick the needle in and I feel zero. The down side, I am having new pain at the moment, but have not bothered to see a Doc because I can 'put up' with it. Now it might be due to something 'serious' in which case the decision not to seek medical treatment earlier, could be the wrong decision in the long run!

I believe pain tolerance is mental. There are people who have conditioned themselves to deal with high levels of pain and stress to the body. Others can't deal with it at all and will rush to the nearest medicine cabinet to relieve the hurt. Most people will fall in the middle.

take a tackhammer and bash yourself over the head and see if you cry or not... let me know how that turns out for you.

I guess you try various degrees of hurting yourself and then you will know? But why do you want to know this?
