I think they are really cute but have never owned one.

Vet tech: they are a crossbreed not a mutt.

Also I'd never adopt from a place like a humane society, I read in Dogfancy how the dog is never truely your dog because they make you sign this indepth contract that makes all sorts of rules about what you can and can't do. No thanks! I want my dog to be my dog.

Working Norwich: this question is for dog lovers not people like you who only want a fancy piece of paper and then keep the poor dog locked in a kennel on cement all it's life.

Loki: There is a difference a mutt (which I also like) are multiple breeds like maybe two crossbreeds mated while a cross breed is two breeds only like a pug and a beagle.

Annabelle: I'm also glad to see others who enjoy crossbreeds---I've liked them since I was a child. They often seem smarter than purebreds to me.

I don't know much about a puggle, but I've seen some pictures, and they are adorable!! I own a Pomanese... a Pom/Maltese mix.... I'm so glad I'm not the only one that loves these type of dogs, anytime I say anything about mine I get thumbs downs and reported... I'm glad there's more people out there like me, and defend them... Thank you!

Crossbreed, mutt, mix, hybrid......whatever. Six of one, half dozen of the other.
Mixes bred to be given a cute "breed name" so unsuspecting people will pay more for it than a purebred of EITHER of the breeds that went into it.
Most ALWAYS bred from examples of the breeds that are LESS than ideal to start with. Most ALWAYS bred from parents that are NOT health cleared for genetic defects.
Looks, personality, temperment....all can vary A LOT from one pup to another within the litter.
Hard to predict looks also. Can look like either breed that went into it, or like a combo of the two.
Can have health problems of both or either breed.

I fail to see the draw.

Gosh, when I was little (and I am not THAT old) and a neighbors Lab bred the other neighbors Shepard, they were MUTTS, mixes......not CROSSBREEDS, or HYBRIDS. These are terms that came about with the designer dog craze to make them seem more acceptable!!!!! No one was going to pay $1200 for a MUTT. But call it a cute little name and refer to it as a CROSSBREED, and you have got yourself something that people will think is worth more!!!!!

And I am not against people owning these mixed breed dogs, if that is what they want to do. The PROBLEM is that the "breeders" of these dogs often charge so much for them because the sales pitch is a pack of lies. They are NOT healthier because they are mixed, they are not a mix of only the GOOD traits from each breed, the negatives for each breed are not "cancelled out" by each other, they cannot be shown, the AKC is NOT going to recognize them in MY lifetime..................................these are all lies that have been told to people my the idiots that breed these mixes.
If they would use good examples of each breed, do health checks on the parents, and not tell lies......I would have no problem with them at all.

no haha puggles are mutts. anything not a purebreed is technically a mutt. honestly i think some are cute (not all most i have seen are down right gross looking) but i really think they are one of the most dangerous designer breeds out there. beagles are very hard dogs to train. they are loud and stubborn. pugs have such a long line of health issues. together they make a horrible combonation.

um ok and since when is dogfancy the end all/be all of dog information. humane societies (and i have actually gotten a dog from one before) do a home check, t o make sure the house is gated. then they make you sign a contract thet you will not give the dog away, you will give it back to them. the only other stipulations are that the dog be enclosed, and have food and water and love? so how is not your dog?

heres the def. of crossbreed:
To produce (an organism) by the mating of individuals of different breeds, varieties, or species; hybridize.

v. intr.
To mate so as to produce a hybrid; interbreed.

and mutt:
noun
an inferior dog or one of mixed breed [syn: cur]

sounds pretty similar

All mutts are cute :)

When it comes time when you are thinking about adding a Pug/Beagle Mix (I refuse to call them Puggles) into your life, adopt one from petfinder.com. You should never purchase a mutt (or any dog for that matter) from pet stores, BYB, or millers/brokers. No one should EVER pay for a mutt. Way too many mutt (and purebred) puppies and dogs are being killed each day in shelters.

NOTE: Sweetie... crossbreeds, mixed breeds, mutts, hybrids, designer dogs, and mongrels ALL mean the same thing :) Just so there is no confusion!!

Definition of a mutt: a mix of two or more breeds.

I have two pug/beagle mixes. Since they are mutts, you never know if your mix with be like the other ones made up of the same breeds.

I'll tell you though, they are not for everyone. Thats why they are all over the place in shelters (if you're going to get one, please adopt).

They have an enourmous amount of energy, and they will be destructive if not exercised enough. I got lucky, my older one is a wonderful dog. She's smart, obedient, and a great companian. The other is too young to tell, but she is getting the hang of things quickly.

LMAO! "Crossbreed" and "mutt" mean the same thing.

Do you realize that the "Puggle" was invented by a notorious puppy-miller in Wisconsin, who is now regretting giving away his "secret breeding program' (i.e. breeding a Pug and a Beagle) because now everyone's doing it and it's driven his prices down??

Why would you possibly want to support such garbage?

ADDED: I'd like to meet the brilliant Master of the English Language who came up with the fine distinction between "crossbreed" and "mutt". A weak semantic argument, at best...at worst, an attempt to somehow confer undue status on the "designer" dog.

Please.

Not a thing. Especially the price tag on one of these mutts. Yes they are mutts. Two pure bred dogs mating does not make a pure bred dog! Seriously people. These are not worth the cash that you are shelling out to them. And honestly the ones that I have seen even look interbred. They have messed up jaws, weird legs...they are just hideous. Get a Beagle or a Pug.....okay!

Oh...you must mean least favorite...
The fact that not only have people crossed two different breeds and call it a breed, but these dogs have a potentially deadly mix. The instinct to run and chase combined with a short and stout nose. If a puggles beagle instinct takes over, they are in danger of not getting the oxygen they need to sustain themselves.

I dont like mix breeds that were bred for money. I only get dogs from rescues. Breeding mixes is pointless and a waste of money if you can find the exact same in a shelter.

and hala. mix breeds,mutts,designer dogs,crossbreds.

THERE ALL THE SAME THING.

Plus I dont like beagles. They are bad with kids and got a low score on the tempermant tests. they scored lower than pits. So yeah no beagles or beagle mixes. just arnt my kind of dog.

So yes i love all dogs including mix breeds. I prefer mix breeds over purebreds. I would never buy a mix from a Backyard breeders and puppymills. anyone who breeds mixes are either BYB's or PM's

I am being honest when I say that I find nothing at all appealing about them. They are dogs and once here they have just as much right to a great life as any other dog out there..
I am totally against people who breed mixed breed dogs on purpose, without regard to anything at all but the money they are going to make.. Most of those little mixed breeds are hyper, aggressive, hard to train and end up in the shelter cause no one can handle them..

So because they are filling the shelters, I am against THOSE that breed them.. Not the dogs themselves, their so called breeders.

My favorite thing about them is if they were adopted from a rescue or shelter or pound.

I wouldn't pay a penny to a "breeder". They are not reputable if they are breeding mixed breed dogs because we already have enough mixes sitting in the shelters wanting homes.

Search through petfinder for puggles or go to a shelter or pound and rescue a mix.
