This so interesting and boosted my faith in prayer changing things.

I was being bagered by my husband and thought he would hit me (like many times before). He was going on and on accusng me of having an affair with someone I didn't even know! I turned my head towards the window and said a silent prayer that the Lord give me the right words to say to him.

Moments later I said, "If you know God as much as you say you do, ask him. He will tell you that I am not seeing anyone." When the words came out of my mouth I felt that it was God taking control because normally I am very subservient because I don't want him to hit me. Anyway, when I said that he stopped, there was a long silence and he said simply, "You are right." then he got out of the car and left me alone.

GOD IS A GOOD GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Bible “is inspired of God.” (2 Timothy 3:16) In what way? The Bible itself answers: “Men spoke from God as they were borne along by holy spirit.” (2 Peter 1:21) To illustrate: A businessman might have a secretary write a letter. That letter contains the businessman’s thoughts and instructions. Hence, it is really his letter, not the secretary’s. In a similar way, the Bible contains God’s message, not that of the men who wrote it down. Thus, the entire Bible truthfully is “the word of God.”—1 Thessalonians 2:13. Prayer... is what we use to talk to God . You can talk to God as if you were speaking to someone that you have the utmost respect for. Instead of waiting to "hear" a response, ask that he give you peace in your heart and the wisdom and grace to do the right things.Romans 8:26-30

I talk to God like he is my best friend....I tell Him anything and everything that is going on, that is what prayer is about - He already knows but He wants to be included......that is what prayer is all about, I pray for the sick people in my life and things they need and things I need myself.....I pray for safety for my family....and friends....the list could go on and on.....but that is how I talk to God......just like a friend because that is what is He is...MY FRIEND.....and I hear Him in my Heart......I know He hears me, I can feel it - not only that - I can see it......I see prayers being answered.....a sick friend diagnosed with cancer (rare only a few people in the US having it) so basically all treatments were experimental and as of right now the treatments are working - that is God replying!!!!!!!!
Great question....and GOD BLESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I talk to God as if He is right here, because He is, though we can't see Him. We can't see the air we breathe, but we know it's there. Just open up and talk, He knows our hearts and our desires and needs. There is a passage that says "Be still and know that I am God". We may not always know His answers and there is a reason for that. In time though, we learn His will and whats expected of us. Sometimes to hear His reply we just have to trust Him and ourselves to know it is Him. I know that when we realize its been Him talking to us and guiding us, we see things so differently. I wish you the best of luck and pray for your close walk with Him. God bless.

God does still speak to people; in fact he cares about us so much that like the good and loving father that he is he left us detailed written instructions... If you really want to hear from God get a good Modern English Translation (New Living Translation or New International Version etc etc..) and read it with an open mind you will find that God does still speak to people and wants it to be a 2-way conversation:) One final thought:
"If you then being evil know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him. "
Jesus Christ, Mathew 7:11, New King James Version

One prays to God to talk to him. You can just think it in your head and he can hear you.
Try talking to him like he's a friend. He HATES
long winded formal prayer. It means very little to him.

I have had God reply in many ways. Sometimes another person will answer my question (out of the blue). God uses people all the time to answer prayer.

Once I was very very depressed. Dad had died, I was very sick and my kid was just diagnosed with a life long disability. I wanted to die. I prayed to God to take my life. I heard him answer me in my head loud and clear, "But I have great plans for you!" I was driving and almost wrecked the car!

This really happened.

god exists within us, and in the progress, we and our community makes....
so if you have witnessed something really great come up somewhere, eve if it was very hidden away or momentary...probably you have witnessed someone trying to speak to god...
if you have reached a step closer to self realization and you own inner peace and realization of your lifes dreams and goals... probably one is closer to god....

we can hear god reply when those of our actions that take us near him are done by effort and not by chance...
we get more opportunity for such effort - that is a reply...
while we are on that path... we are given hapiness and sadness... that is a reply sometimes as well....

so when we are happy we know... he was with us in a way...

and sometimes when we are sad, we know, he is looking at us but as we are not doing the right things, he is not smiling at us, and thus putting us through a test of kinds, that we must emerge gracefully through....so when we are sad, it is for our betterment.... if w can find the way...

if you want a physical god - it could be through your local priest, you parents, a very good and kind and honorable teacher..

sometimes prayer in itself is an end....
positive self suggestions help...

"God" is a fictional entity. Each person is his or her own God. You have all the correct answers within yourself. We all make mistakes, whether we pray or not, but if you keep trying you'll get it right. Read and abide by The Ten Commandments and you'll be a good person. Talk to yourself and search for your own answers cause you are your own God!

I've found for me the most practical way to know his response is by placing some action in the mix. For example:

Me: Look, I'm thinking of doing this, I don't know if it's what you want from me, so unless you stop me, I'm doing it.

God responds: with endless roadblocks if he doesn't want me to do it, if I have his blessing, it's smooth sailing the whole way through whatever it is I'm doing.

And sometimes, You JUST KNOW. There is no voice or reasonable explanation, it's just something you know.
