I believe so
I appreciate and admire the teachings of Jesus..
if it was just that , then I may consider myself somewhat of a Christian
but as it stands .... I could not imagine being a Christian with todays teachings on the religion

I would not say that is entirely true. While I don't have a lot of confidence in most organized religions, they all contain some very loving, decent, compassionate people. Good works have been done by organized religion and it would be unfair to say they have not. Poor have been fed, homeless have been sheltered, etc., and this is all in accordance with Jesus' teachings.

But I think the emphasis by most organized religions is too much on sin and punishment and hell and not enough on Christ's commandment to love others as we love ourselves. In that respect, they have damaged Jesus' work on earth.

On the one hand being "organized" was a great way to get Jesus' work done! As compared to not having anyone in charge of the efforts...

But on the other hand, when the "organization" became a hierarchical power play (and I mean in ALL the denominations), then the ability to truly do Jesus' work on earth was impeded. The "work" became focused on preserving the denominational political structures rather than on preaching, healing, teaching, giving, and helping.

Add to that, all the fighting between Christians who are supposed to be ONE body in Christ, and we have set a very poor example of unity and love to the world.

So, my answer to your question is, "yes."

In many ways organized religion seems to take away from Jesus message of seeking God for yourself, and being responsible for making right descisions based on loving god and loving man rather than following the religious herd and thier interpetations of what God wants for you.

Well, not really.

We don't actually know anything about "Jesus," including whether he ever existed historically. But on the "evidence" (such as it is) of the gospels, he was your standard salvationist who preached that the only way to avoid hell was to "believe on his name." That's pretty much what Paul preached, and what most Christians believe today, all controversies aside.

It seems like the last concession to Christianity for people to say "Well, Jesus himself was a good guy, but he's been misinterpreted by his followers." That's really not the case. Even his celebrated parables have only one moral, which is "Believe in me or burn."

No. Jesus knows His sheep, and He has not lost ONE of them.

Jesus did not come to spread philosophy--He came to save those that were lost. Religion cannot touch this work, nor can it sway it.

At least you admit that organized religion is a fraud. Now all you need to do is realize that 'Jesus' was an invention used to perpetuate the fraud.
