most retrievers are friendly with people, kids and other animals. they are smart and loyal as many dogs who are raised with a young family train them right and read up on the breed so you will have the right answers if you decide to get one. golden and black labs are in the same catagory as retrievers so they would be a good choice too. good luck

As a rule, yes. It depends on where you get it from and how you raise and train it.

Nice little dogs, but since the breed has a fairly small gene pool there are certain health problems that keep popping up. Make sure you do your research and only buy from a reputable breeder that does health screening including hips and eyes.

They are nice dogs and for the most part quite family friendly!!
They are HIGH ENERGY and need something to do though. They are not good at sitting around being quiet all day. If you get one, plan on spending time in agility or another activity to keep it mentally and physically occupied.
