i believe i suffer from depression. i recently got a phone call from a employer who saw my resume on monster. i did a poor job on my resume and didn't even complete everything. i have very little experience but i did graduate from college recently. i just wonder why in the world would they contact me? i mean, here i tried to commit suicide just last week. i've been overdosing on pills almost everyday for the past several days to get a high. i really can't see any employer hiring me. frankly, i'm sure that i would ruin the interview. i just feel like i'm waiting to die. if i do managed to reach out for help and get meds for my depression, will it help improve my self confidence? or am i forever going to feel like i'm nothing and worthless?

you know, that's my exact fear. telling my parents that i don't believe i'm suppose to be alive and hearing them say i don't care or your only doing that for attention. i'm not doing this for attention. don't you think i would love to enjoy a day at disneyland with my nephew and not think i don't deserve to be here. or think about cutting my wrist open. a normal person doesn't think about these things. i have a problem and you are so willing to disregard it and nothing.

No, the antidepressants help the emotional symptoms...You NEED to go to the doctor and get a mental evaluation for depression...they will ask you a bunch of questions, and may prescribe you some meds.

Also ask for a referral to a mental health clinic or counsellor...the therapy will help the self-esteem, etc issues.

And please, PLEASE stop taking those pills! You are damaging yourself and will cause long term problems!!

Good luck hun, I hope you get the help you need :)

Wow Howie R you are a jerk. This person has a real problem, and needs help. Don't be so quick to disregard it as nothing!!

A psychiatrist is a medical doctor who prescribes medication for treatment of mental disorders like depression. You probably will get a prescription unless the psychiatrist doesn't think your depression is serious enough. Treating the symptoms of depression with medication can help to improve your self confidence. However, confidence may also be related to ones conditioning and personality traits. Some people may need counseling/psychotherapy in addition to medication in order to make improvements. It's a corny analogy, perhaps, but I think it's kind of like having wings but still needing to learn how to fly. I have a long history of depression and low self esteem. I went through a series of low paid jobs and covered my feelings with over-eating, substance abuse and other risky behavior. When I finally got put on an anti-depressant; it worked like a miracle. I got back in college, studied hard, worked at a part time job, played in a band, got a nice girl friend. I got a pretty good job in my chosen field after I graduated. I doubt if that would have been possible if I never had been treated. I never saw the need for counseling, personally, but it might be a wise choice for some people. I still have some self confidence issues, but I think I deal with it pretty well on my own. I recently got a significant promotion at work so I can't be doing too bad.

I have had a little experience with depression, my ex was has been depressed his whole life, and now our youngest daughter has been dx. as bi-polar, so we too have suffered, there are several kinds of depression, the kind that is NOT caused by death, divorce, and general life circumstances, and does not go away, that type usually means that your brain chemistry is off and you need some medication to help balance that,(serotonin etc.) and may be a temporary or a life long need, first signs of depression is mood changes, sleeping and eating changes or problems, a good psychiatrist can tell in one visit pretty much where you are at and what you will need , plus, you need the support on the side of a psychotherapist , that does wonders for moral and will give you a lot of emotional strength and support, Remember that most medications for depression have to be taken long enough to build up a therapeutic blood level, which can be a few weeks,so you have to give them some time to kick in and work, also, once you start, you never abruptly stop, you have to "taper" off of them, your Dr. will explain these basic things to you, good luck.

people find resumes based on search words found in the resume. so they don't know anything about your psychotic behavior. no, anti depressants won't make you self confident or help you stop lying about taking pills and overdosing on them daily to get high. its just a childish cry for attention.

glad you graduate from college. sorry you have to grow up now and be an adult.

Yes with the right medication, you would feel much better. You really need to see a Psychologist or a Psychiatrist and they could help you. You would do much better and hopefully once you get your depression under control and get your job, things will fall into place.

GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!!

Talk to your school counselor. I know the fear of telling your family- I had the same problem with my anxiety disorder, and when I was younger no one believed me. But I do, hon- talk to your school counselor and tell him/her that you want help, and ask for help with telling your parents.

You aren't worthless, dear :) There is hope for you!

Good luck and many hugs!
