I shop at consignment stores. I am really choosy and only pick items that still look brand new. This was I'm able to get my 2 1/2 year old daughter a bag of clothes for what it would cost for one outfit. My mom loves to shop and actually buys most of my daughters clothes. I also shop clearance items and buy sizes sometimes too big if the deal is too good to pass up and will pack away the clothes until I need them. I also buy my daughter a lot of clothes that will mix and match easily (not too busy patterns) which helps. My daughter has so many clothes I don't know what to do with all of them. One really good consignment store that is all over here in Southern California is "Children's Orchard." They call their clothes slightly used and a lot of times there will still be the new tags on the clothes. My daughter wears clothes from Gymboree, BabyGap, The Children's Place for a fraction of the cost and no one ever knows that it wasn't brand new when she got it. It's great.

I know about the tall thing. I got a boy that is 4 and always has to wear 2 sizes higher cause of his height. I usually by their winter clothes in the summer. Thats when places like K-Mart, Family or Dollar General and Walmart mark down all their past winter stuff to get rid of it so they can get ready for the summer stuff. Of course when I do that I always buy a size up. Like if my youngest wears a 18 months I buy a 2T or 3T. I usually by a couple of pieces. I also ask for clothes for my kids x-mas presents from family members. I would rather have socks, underwear, jackets for their x-mas rather than a toy they're going to break in less than 30 days. Plus I doubt my 2 yr old cares if he gets clothes from his nana for Christmas.

Oh another good tip is goodwill or any other thrift shop. During around April/May I can sometimes find babies sweat shirts for .25 to .50 a piece.

I do a lot of my shopping at end of season clearances at the stores. Now is a good time to stock up for next summer.

Hit yard sales also next year. In our area they are over for the season but if they are still happenign in your area hit them up.

But for this winter I would look for sales at stores. I love Kohl's since you can save a lot of money using the charge card. As long as you pay a portion of your bill each month that they set, they charge NO interest. This can help to divide up the costs of the clothing. Also you can save 15-30% on top of sale prices when you use your card.

Also try e-bay. I do a lot of shopping here also. Go to the toddler clothing section and search by distance first. This way you can get great deals and do a local pickup to save on the shipping charges. Make sure you ask the seller first as some charge a small fee to recover listing fees.

Good luck!

I received bags full of hand-me-down girl clothes from a relative and our babysitter, so some seasons I don't end up having to buy anything. As this summer was one of those seasons, I now have to start looking for new (longer) pants and maybe some tops. I tend to get things I happen to see when I am out, I've never really gone and shopped for an entire new wardrobe for my daughter. I pick up some of her tops at JCPenney, the Okeedokee brand that is usually on sale, other things I get at Walmart, and sometimes I see stuff at Kmart that I happen to get on sale. Get items of clothing that you can mix and match, rather than entire outfits. That way it's easier if you have to change her out of part of her outfit if it gets dirty/wet or whatever, instead of having to have a whole new outfit available.

Sometimes you can find wonderful deals on very cute name brand clothing at yard sales. Toddlers aren't very hard on clothing, so it's easy to find items in great shape at these sales. Also The Children's Place has very cute, good quality clothing and they also have an online site. Their clearance items are sometimes less than $5 per item. I have also found cute items on clearance for my little girl in wal mart and target stores. My last suggestion is ebay. You can get new with tags and/or gently used clothing and Great prices..

I am a low income mommy and the best deals are at JCPenneys. The brand is OkieDokie and I have gotten an entire wardrobe of bright vibrant things for my daughter for under $100. I got a coat for her at Wal-Mart for 13 dollars and my best friend goes to a thrift place in her town that sells brand new stuff for kids for uber cheap. Try different places.

Wal-Mart is my second home! They really have nice, durable, and cute clothes that are reasonable. I know what you mean. I am a single mother and I hunt bargains. One important thing is to shop off season. Now is the perfect time to hit the clearance racks in department stores to start on the summer things for next year. And in march or april, start for the winter. God Bless
