Hi all. Thank you for your answers so far. I should have added that I live in Ireland. Is there anyone who knows what the story is here?

If your local council doesn't take it, approach one of your local garages and see if they will include it with their old oil.

Engine oil can be recycled by taking it to any of the Community Recycling Centres or council 'tips' around the borough Etc. You can be prosecuted if you pour the oil down the drain because this can have serious environmental impacts on nearby watercourses.

I was going to say take it to the local council tip....but everyone else just said it.
We usually save the can the new oil came in, and use an old funnel to pour the old oil into it.

Edit- hi, just saw your addition about Ireland. Don't know how local services are run over there, but I should contact your local environmental services department and ask them!

Walmart tire and lube. At least the ones in Austin, Texas take used oil. But they don't make it easy. They don't advertise it and only accept oil during certain hours. They don't accept it whenever they are open, only during certain hours. Ask at your local Walmart.
