Gifts like that make you seem kinda desperate... SORRY... you need to man up and grow some pelotas (balls)... no sappy gifts... don't compliment her... don't spend money on her... remember "girls love a holes!"

she suggested to do the cake together, do not know about you, but I would bake the cake with her, otherwise my worry would be how she would take me baking the cake by myself and excluding her after she suggested the idea of doing it together, she might feel excluded, but not really show it as she would think it is sweet that you baked a cake for her.
Plus it should be fun to bake the cake with her. spend time together and stuff.
oh yeah, take what sophie said into account as well, would not look good if you are standing there like a drone, or prepare well in ahead and know what you are supposed to do.

It sounds like she wants to bake a cake with you, so instead of baking a cake, take the ingredients to her house and make it together. It will be a fun activity for you especially if you take time decorating it...

I think it's a cute idea. But if she was looking forward to baking with you, she might be disappointed...or worse, accuse you of not listening to her. You'd be safer coming by her place with all the baking supplies, and tell her you came over to turn her sadness into sweetness or something corny but cute to remind her of what you said earlier. Besides, it's kinda sexy to watch a guy in the kitchen. :)

Unless "bake a cake" is some euphemism I haven't picked up on yet, it is a very nice idea. From scratch, or box mix? (If box mix, you can go to the store together and debate the flavor selection.)
Then move on to breads, or cookies.

Not at all. Actually that is really sweet and romantic. If my beau baked me a cake I would think it was the best. As a matter of fact he has been slipping lately on his romantic side. I gotta get on him ;-)

It's nice of you to want to bake her a cake all by yourself....but if she wants to bake one WITH YOU, then hold off and bake one with her! It's fun baking with someone else, it's a combined effort and you both look forward to it when it comes out of the oven. Besides, it's romantic...Duh!

If you have cooking skills, this is a good idea.. then invite her over to cook dinner together...
If you have no skills or have never baked a cake before, this is a bad idea...
