let's say there actually is a god. only he wanted the most decent people in heaven. keep in mind decency has nothing to do with believing in him. and not only was he wanting decent people, but they must also possess a good sense of reason. all the prophecies, whether you believe they were fulfilled or not, were only recorded in the bible, not to test your faith, but to test your reason. and so, maybe those who came to the conclusion that he didn't exist, would not only go to heaven, but receive a higher spot in heaven than those who believed blindly. if that were the case, would you be mad? would you be mad at god?

I have said it before ...
I bet Atheists will be up there with the best of them lol
I have thought about this and it would make a lot of sense
although it is not my belief ( I believe we ALL go to the next life anyway )
but in my opinion ...
God would respect those who used the brains they were given to think for themself
and to do good to others without promises of reward

Your question about 'decency' opens up a can of worms to consider. Whose good deeds are more sincere the person who believes their deeds are watched and counted and no matter how sincere believes there is a reward for them OR the person who believes all deeds are anonymous and truly expects no reward.

I've been asking for years and posting this since coming here.
What if what he really wants is people who most closely emulate an infinitely intelligent being? What if what he wants is to see who will trust and wait for proof only from him and who will abandon him and follow one of the conflicting religions on earth?

If god made us then he made us all begin without theism. What if this means he wants us to stay that way until he proves himself to us? What if the reason he provides no evidence is that the test is to see who takes a logical path saying "only god can prove god"? Wouldn't that mean only atheists are on the right path? After all an atheist by the definition of the word is religiously neutral.

An atheist doesn't reject the will or word of god - an atheist rejects the humans who claim they know the will and word of god.

Although my reasoning lead me to Christianity- I'll go along and pretend I just jumped on board to avoid hell which is the opposite of why I became a Christian.
If God only wanted the most decent people with a good sense of reason in heaven I would be fine, BUT then I would be concerned that he gave us nothing with which to comprehend his nature/attributes and therefore I would be concerned that I don't really know this God or what to expect of him.

That would be heaven!!! Being able to be around all the most intelligent, rational, reasonable people for eternity! Now THERE's a heaven that could tempt me. But then, it wouldn't change my current behavior, so it's not necessary that I either believe or disbelieve such a place exists. Hope, on the other hand . . .

That is a great question. I personally can't subscribe to any religion or spiritual path that requires any kind of judgmental attitude toward ANYONE. This would, unfortunately, fall under that category. I suppose if God came down and told me that S/He judges people this way, I would be rather irritated. I'd have to ask Her/Him where all the fundies and mentally ill folks go, and how S/He could justify that kind of harsh judgment (I think the whole idea of a judgmental God is hilarious anyway...who created us? And why would S/He judge His/Her creations as "bad" or "good"?)

He does want decent people in heaven. However, your logic seems to be lacking...if the people with the "most reason" were ultimately in error and the ones "without reason" got it right...? How's that work? The people who got it wrong get rewarded for "getting it right"? Wow.

Well, since the Bible clearly states that "If any man would come to God, he must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him," I would say your question is meaningless. If decency were enough to gain Heaven, why would God NEED to send His only Begotten Son to die for sin? Again, your question is meaningless. If works of the flesh (in any shape, form or fashion) could justify man (in other words show him faultless of sin), again, why would Jesus have needed to sacrifice Himself for sin? And again, your question is meaningless. If anything you propose were even remotely plausible, then there would be no God to be mad at, and yes, again your question is meaningless.

As Jesus as you call him said:
Ive not come but to do the will of the Father, not mine own will but that of the Father.
Nuff Said.
Obedience is Key. for without obedience did they become lawless.
Free will is the prison of the inhabitants of earth. Outside of earth the only will that is conceivable is that of the Father, the Infinite Creator.

No, I'd be relieved that god was rational and fair (unlike the Biblical god.)
