My cousins have a labrador that they've named Cody. I think it would be a good name for you, because it fits two of your three 'wants'. It starts with a C and it's a cowboy's name (Buffalo Bill Cody). Plus, I think it could work for a girl too.

Is the dog a male or female? If it's a female, I would go with the name Jezebel (pronounced Jezz - a - bell)
For males a good name for a cowboy theme would be
Marshall.
Oh, and are you getting the dog from a reputable breeder? If it's a backyard breeder, I'd suggest not getting the dog from them, and going to a shelter to get a dog.

If you go here:
http://dictionary.reference.com/translate/
You can translate from English to German, to get a German word with an English meaning to name your dog!
I tried Cowboy and Cowgirl, but the German translation for that is just that... Cowboy and Cowgirl...
I tried horse, which turned out to be Pferd (pronounced Ferrd (with a rolled R)
I also tried Cow, which translated to Kuh, (pronounced Koo)
Sooo... yeah... Good luck!

If the dog's going to be big, and the theme is cowboys and cowgirls, why not name it after a breed of cattle, like Herford, Jersey, Gurnsey, etc.?

You noted that a potential name could be German.
I'm a buff, admirer, lover, hopeless addict to/of the music of the German operatic composer, W.R. Wagner: Wilhelm Richard Wagner.
He lived from 1813-1883, and is considered to be one of the greatest composers that ever lived.
His greatest achievement is generally considered to be his "Ring" cycle: "Der Ring des Nibelungen"(The Ring of the Nibelung"): a tetrology of 4 operas, contiguous in its story line, meant to be performed on 4 consecutive days.
It's based on Norse mythology, and from it I'm listing the names of some of its various characters, both male and female, from which you may find an appropriate name for your new puppy. Loves and hugs from me to him/her:
Male: Wotan, Siegfried, Hagen, Loge, Mime, Alberich, Fafner, Fasolt, Donner and Froh.
Female: Brunnhilde, Sieglinde, Fricka, Erda, Flosshilde, Welgunde, Woglinde, Gutrene, and there are eight more Valkyries(Brunnhilde), which I want list.
Perhaps you may find one of these to your liking. Let us know if you can, what your ultimate choice turns out to be.
A very interested,
Wotan

If you want a cowboy name, I would go with Willie Focker, you know, after the famous cowboy!!
Added: DP, I believe the famous tennis player was Hugh Jorgin, not Hugh Jardon!! Easy mistake though!
