YES, you should be getting more! I bet they jumped at you when you quote that rate! My 16 year old makes $8 an hour babysitting one child child -- that would be $36 a day for 4.5 hours. Doesn't matter about your daughter or your other son -- you are caring for the child, period.

You should have stated an hourly wage rather than a flat fee just in case the mother doesn't pick up the baby in time. And if you think about it, you are asking for below minimum wage. Do you realize that you are getting an average of $4.44 per hour? I hope she's paying you under the table so that at least you won't have to claim it to the IRS at tax time. Oh well the damage is done now, but for the next time you will know to charge at least the minimum wage! You know that you are taking on a big responsibility. It may sound easy to care for a 9 month old, but if the baby happens to have an accident of any sort, it is your responsibility and with a 20 month old, he might be a little jealous and try to harm the baby. You have to take that all into consideration. Good luck with your new job.

Yes. I think it was way too cheap. I pay $10 a hour for one kid or $15 an hour for two. Since you doing it regularly that can be tweaked a little. Baby sitters in my area get around $350 for a full week. So lets say $350 divided by 5 = $70 a day.
You are doing half a day 3 times a week, so that would be $35 x 3 = 105

Check your local papers to see what other people are asking and do the math.

Also if you are providing anything at all, diapers, food, etc, that will add up. The mom should be giving it all up front.

I'm not sure if you'd like this answer but most day care workers watch 5+ children (up to 13+) and don't make much more than that and they've gone to school for it. When I was 14 (about 8 years ago) I made a dollar an hour per kid, but with inflation I'm not sure how it would transfer. I think it all depends on what minimum wage is in your area, what you actually do (whether you spend ALL of your time with the children or if you let the tv do part of the job, whether you cook meals or not.) But in my area at 14 you're lucky to be able to baby sit at all let alone make $6 an hour for it

No, I don't think you should've - that adds up to be more than $4 an hour and that's quite a bit - I've never paid more than $2.50 an hour for a sitter, even when I worked and my duaghter was in daycare full time. I watch a little girl from 5:30 a.m. to 8:00 a.m and 2:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday for $2 an hour. I personally would never pay $4 an hour for a babysitter.

I run a daycare through my house and charge $50 a day per child but that's from 7:30 - 5:30! I would have asked for at least $30 a day or $100 for the week!

depends on where you live. In my area $20 a day is about the going rate for a full 8-9 hour day. Call around your area. Just hope what this women knows what she is getting herself into. You may call her baby pathetic if it uses a pacifier

I guess it just depends on what others pay in your area, if your CPR certified and/or providing meals. where I live the going rate is about $25 for a full day.
I would call around and see what others would charge.

my babysitter charges me $40 a day for a 7 week old. I wish she would have charged me $20 a day. I guess it all depends on where you live. I am in Chicago so the cost of living is higher.
