According to 63% of the general public, it's plasma.

Plasmas tend to have better colors overall than most LCD's... but Plasma has a real problem with screen burn-in right now. I would wait a couple years before buying a plasma screen....

I'm gearing up to buy an HDTV and when I do I'm going with DLP. It's not flat like LCD or plasma, but that's not a huge factor in my purchasing decision anyway. The picture quality is amazing on every unit I've seen. I'd recommend giving these a look.

Should you elevate your question to: What's better than plasma or LCD? Then read the following:

Even though the Infocus SP4805 is currently back ordered for $325, it's the best deal around from infocus.com > Store > See All Home Theatre Projectors > Green Icon at right for SP4805. It's a DLP front projector with 4X speed color wheel with no apparent viewable rainbow effect.

Here's an actual movie, "A Good Woman" projected onto a 92" diagonal screen with the SP4805:

plasmas are better in respect that they work on gasses being charged and illuminated when supplied with power...plasma TVs handle rapid movement very smoothly and efficiently...LCD were made for data display and not videos hence the refresh rates have to be improved to compete with plasmas....one draw back of plasma is that they are very fragile....shipping/intalling and un installing is a problem ....also they dont work well at high altitudes due to the nature of the gas ......hope this helps

i work at a top high street consumer electronics store.

It all depends on what programmes you watch?

plasmas generally make your dark colours darker and sharper.

LCD's make you whiters whiter and sharper.

however, overall, LCD's have less energy consumption, will probably last longer, and are usually cheaper.

definatley get an LCD 37" or less

LCD is cheaper and is much better than plasma

Plasma colours are controlled by gas so if the gas runs out then you have to replace it (The gas) also the gas burns the TV lol.

So buy LCD I have LCD and am happy 100%!

Plasma for films , Lcd for genaral day to day tv use.

LCD TV's are better for tv's 50 inches or smaller. Plasma is most commonly used in the big, big screen tv's. Generally, I'd say LCD is better overall, because technology keeps getting better and better and so LCD tech. can keep being put into bigger and bigger tv's.
