Basically on November the 5th we celebrate the foiling of the "Gunpowder Plot"
I'm not well read on it but a group of Catholic men wanted to blow up Parliament while the Protestant King was inside. They stored a lot of gunpowder in a cellar room of Parliament. The man assigned to guard and set off the gunpowder, "Guy Fawkes" was caught in the room and excuted for treason.
To this day we celebrate "Guy Fawkes Night" or "Bonfire Night" as it's more commonly known these days by setting off fireworks and burning a "Guy" (kind of like a scarecrow) on a bonfire.
Anyway for the original problem. My oldest cat doesn't seem to mind i have two kittens who haven't experienced Guy Fawkes Night yet, we'll have to see how that goes. My dog is a different story though, he barks like a mad dog when they go off.

I would say try and keep them in at night particularly, even if they howl as i have seen the damage that fireworks can do to animals, physically and mentally. I know they can be set off in the day too, but it's nighttime mostly when these idiots come out of the woodwork.

They have started going off here as well which creates a huge problem for me.
Both of my cats LOVE fireworks and as soon as they hear them the go off they go rushing out of the catflap to sit in the garden and watch them!
Cats will always go out the way of things that frighten them so don't worry too much about keeping them in.

i know what you mean. fireworks night used to be once a year, now it seems people let them off at the drop of a hat! last year someone down my road had a load they let off when they were having a party - i had no idea so didn't know to keep my cat in! she went missing for 4 hours! its horrible! i guess the only thing you can reasonably do is scan the local papers for adverts for firework events in your area - this still won't cover ALL of the fireworks that may go off but it may help! i HATE fireworks because of this!!

Check with your local fire marshal, there are usually legal limits on when fireworks can be sold (in the US anyway). Anyone selling outside the legal period can be fined and their license to sell them revoked.
If your area doesn't have this, get copies of the laws from areas that do have them and approach your local city/area government about adopting such restrictions.
As a professional pyrotechnician, I'm all for more large city-sized displays! :-)

There is not really anything you can do for them except try to keep them away from the fireworks and if inside close the windows for them.Dogs are the same way.

put the telly on and keep the windows shut she/he will settle down and sleep if there isn't any noise. There isn't any problems keeping cats in mine is a house cat and very happy and content with it.It was that or worry about her getting hurt by passing car or thug so she's safe and sound in the house with plenty of toys.

tell me about it! i have a dog and its abd enough her being scared shi tless on the 5th nov but she also has to be that way 2 weeks before and a few days after! the new law put on the other year has helped but i think fireworks should only be sold to organisations holding big firework displays. little sickos get there hands on them every year and torture poor innocent animals with them which is just sick and wrong!

You can't keep it in all day but fireworks go off at night so keep it in when it starts to get dark. Don't pick it up just let it go where it wants to go but try to stroke it and keep it calm. Shut all windows and try not to open doors. If you can let it sit on your lap but don;t force it as it could get more scared. Hope this helps. X
