I've seen many questions on this board where someone was asking something specific that had to do with their belief system. But about half of the answers (or more) were just useless responses about how the poster thought the question was stupid because they didn't believe in that particular religion. What a waste of time! If you think it's a dumb question, just don't answer! Enough bashing.

I'm not talking about just disagreeing, but I've seen lots of answers that were just saying "I don't care" or "That's a stupid question." Everyone has a right to voice an opinion, but what happened to common courtesy & respect for other people?

Thank you for posting this all important message.
It is very discouraging to post a question and have people come back with insults and hatred. It has happened to me so many times that I am becoming hesitant to ask questions because I know that I will get the hate mongers responding with name calling and bashing.
I agree with the previous posters that disagreement is fine and we all have a right to our opinions. But it seems that sometimes people are out to destroy others.
I have had many face to face discussions with people of various Christian denominations and we are always able to respect each other's opionion without "character assasination". That seems impossible here on R & S.
I would like to remind Christians that we are to display the "fruit of the Spirit". Remember that there is a real person with feelings that is posting. We should not be out to destroy them!!
Blessings

You would have to point to a specific example. I've seen many posts that are essentially "Why is that group so stupid? Don't bash me I'm just asking."

We all come to YA knowing that it is an open forum where within pretty broad limits people can say whatever they like. To expect everyone to meet our own definition of courtesy is unreasonable.

I'm neither condoning or apologizing for other's lack of courtesy. But it's naive to not expect it. However while we all can say what we like we also all define ourselves by what we say.

I do not think we debate enough over questions concerning the one faith, being followers of Christ. We shouldn't be comfortable in believing we have the truth and thats that. Jesus said, when he the Holyghost should come ,he would lead us in (all) truth. We should know what we believe and why we believe it to be so by proof. We must remember the road is broad and wide that lead to destruction and many be on it. As well as the strait and narrow road leads to eternal life and few was said to find it. I do not mind being bashed or thumped by anyone who says there christain. I will accept an answer based on scriptures but to those that just answer ignorantly , they need to study or give it up. I will get my rewards when Jesus comes back so keep stoning me as they did the prophets of old ! We should agree on sound doctrine or else we've been decieved and decieve our ownselves .

Bashing isn't the same thing as disagreeing with someone or expressing their own opinion. If there is a question asked everyone has a right to have their say.

But, I agree, if you think a question is stupid don't answer it unless you have a valid point.

i've got had alot of atheist friends like this, we are thoroughly cool as long as we sidestep the subject remember of religion, i think of you will might desire to merely upward thrust up and be completely hassle-free say you do no longer opt to talk with him approximately faith surprisingly if he's unwilling to be civil and respectful. If he can no longer comply you ought to decrease him off. It sucks to lose good friends besides the shown fact that it sucks greater to have somebody who's meant to be a good buddy continuously disrespecting you and putting you down. To me this is not even a non secular concern it somewhat is an argument of him respecting you as a guy or woman. i'm no longer able to stand having unfavourable human beings in my existence, i dont have many friends subsequently i follow the few who settle for me for who i'm, take it or bypass away it. make useful despite you return to a sort to do pray approximately it and ask God for information, because of the fact it somewhat is in many cases the 1st step. do no longer take my advice seek for it from God, because of the fact he will understand alot greater useful than maximum persons on Yahoo! solutions will ;)

If by "bash" you mean "disagree" then sorry but thats the way it is when free speech is permitted.

There are a lot of stupid questions asked on here - stupid by any normal standard of commonsense. Most of the really stupid questions are themselves some form of attempt at "bashing" - along the lines of "don't ignorant atheists realise they're going to hell?" (only with all the usual spelling mistakes). Such questions provoke aggressive and/or negative replies and rightly so. Perhaps there would be less "bashing" all round if those asking the questions took time to think about what they were actually asking.

AMEN to that!
I believe that eveyrone has the right to ask and answer but why waste time answering if it is not something you are even interested in? It's like the drive is there to be hurtful to someone else and that is not cool at all.

If asking hard questions to fundies is "bashing", then maybe they need a bigger Rolodex of biblical verses to handle it.

What you see as useless may be very useful to another. It's all a matter of perspective.
