If there is a God I doubt very much that God would conform to notions of gender which are after all culturally decided and different all over the world. And wh ywould God be male or female as regards to sex either because I presume we are talking about a spiritual higher power presumably without a body so why why why would God be given gender?
In the Judeo Christian tradition God is seen as male but in many world religions there are gods goddesses genderless gods it just depends on the religion, which in turn depends on the views of whoever founded the religion.

God is masculine and a spiritual being beyond our comprehension. He created all that exists for His glory. Think about it, if you were able to comprehend God, His methods, etc. He wouldn't be worthy of being God! I say this as a Christian believer by the way. God does not ask in the Bible for you to understand Him, explain Him, or defend Him, because either we don't have the ability or He does not need us to; He did consistently ask us to trust Him though. My point: God created humanity in His image, but is NOT human. He is not lonely nor does he require feminine companionship. Plus, from a Christian view, God is clear repeatedly that He is the only true God and that anything that would be considered equal to or above Him would be idolatry. Having a "goddess" at His side would be a complete and total violation/contradiction of His word.

He took on gender when he appeared in human form as Jesus, but in His essence God is a Spirit, neither male nor female. He created mankind to fellowship with. Any other need for a woman would be considered lustful and would mean that God has the same sinful desires as man.

The question is not if god is alone, but if humans created a god to feel less alone in a universe that doesn't cater to our desires.
Religions vary. Some gods have human traits and multiple lovers, like the Greeks. Others are patriarchal male figureheads, and do not recognize a woman's role in procreation, or her intellectual contributions to society. It varies, based on the culture that helped to form each religion.

In earlier Hebrew times he was married to Asherah, the Queen of Heaven, but since the Hebrew's picked up monotheism from the Persians and the Egyptians they like to ignore that fact.

Who says there aren't other gods.
Read genesis again. God made man in 'our image', not 'my image'. God also spoke to a ubiquitous 'us' when throwing Adam and Eve out of the Garden. The pronouns used imply a group that is on equal footing...

God has millions (maybe billions) of angels to keep Him company, as well as his favored Son. (John 1:18)
Maybe Heaven is just more peaceful with only one Person calling the shots.

You are referring to "dualism." Not all believe that each thing has a counterbalance. Some believe that "God" is a Goddess as well as a god- all in one. Others believe that "God" is a female. Most religions make "God" a man because of paternalistic societies that first wrote about/told stories about "God."

I feel certain that if there is a God, He has a Goddess! Of course that's just anthropomorphizing God. After all, if fungi had religion, theirs would have seven or eight different sexes. Hmmm... sounds complicated, eh?
