If open carry of firearms is illegal as many claim then how would one hunt without a CCW permit?

You can open carry in Ohio except in your car...in order to open carry in your car, you must have a CCW permit. Also, expect "issues" with open carry, especially when entering establishments like Malls, shopping centers, etc. Be very aware of where your state does and does not allow firearms (alcohol served versus alcohol sold versus permits required to serve and sell alcohol, cause a lot of confusion in many states). Don't think because you can open carry or because you have a CCW that you can walk in anywhere...if there is any ambiguity in the law then err on the side of caution or else you could find yourself under arrest and/or in a nasty legal battle.

Here are some resources for you to read through...and always remember, laws change so make sure you keep up to date to avoid breaking the law:

I would check with local authorities, DA office, state AG, and the agency responsible for CCW permits on current laws.

In some areas of NY you need a darn good reason for a concealed carry permit, and a character reference from the Governor, the Pope, and 5 Supreme Court Justices wouldn't be a bad idea either! Seriously ... NY does not issue concealed carry permits!

Ohio is not an open carry state, carrying open is illegal. A CCW means you carry concealed, not open. Why not just get a CCW and carry concealed and avoid all the hassle associated with open carry.

"OPEN" carry is ILLEGAL in the state of Ohio. The only way you can legally carry is with a concealed weapons permit. There is an application process you must submit to along with fingerprinting and a complete criminal background history must be done. There is a fee involved for processing. Contact the Ohio State Police for the application and additional information on requirements. There also might be additional local restrictions depending on what part of Ohio you live in.Good Luck!

In any state where you are allowed to carry openly, the CCW does not apply. Read this article on open carry:
