There is no reason to believe that this activity has begun just in the last few decades. The number of young and innocent victims must certainly number in the many thousands. According to the bible "god" has killed people for far lesser offenses (and in some cases for no offense at all) than child molestation, which surely is one of the most repugnant of all human acts. Yet "god", as omnipotent as he is supposed to be, has done nothing, and cases of child molestation are still coming to light. He acted swiftly and with vengence in biblical stories, but oddly, he does nothing now. Assuming that "god" is displeased and angered by this (as any decent and loving "god" would be), why hasn't he done something about it? If he can create the universe, and all that is in it, why doesn't he stop little boys from being victimized by his own representatives?

I read the knee-jerk fundie "answer" of "free will" over and over here. "God" ordered every person in Jericho KILLED (with one or two possible exceptions). This means men, women, children, and babies. What about "free will" then??? "God" KILLED every human being on earth, except Noahs immediate family. What was the justifyable offense committed by each and every one of those men, women, children, and babies? What about "free will"? But you see this big, powerful........but phony and non-existant..... "god" only did these things in biblical times. Yes, the miracles, the killing, the stoning, the burning, the transformations, the talking animals, the 500 year lifespans, and all the rest of that hooey ONLY happened in biblical times. For some reason, "god" just can't seem to do any of this magical stuff anymore. Now "he" just sits back, does nothing whatsoever, and leaves everything to "free will." Oh yes, now the answer to "gods" chronic and total inaction since biblical times,is "free will." This is so astoundingly, and stupifyingly absurd that it takes your breath away.

God gives us the choice to do what ever we want to do.
He lets us make the decision to do what is right or wrong. We
then choose our own path in life . We can try to live in his image or go the other way. We are living in a physical and
material world, filled with good and evil. There is much suffering for those who have been molested. It is a long journey recovering . Priests in reality are in many ways just
like anyone else who chooses this behavior.A priest is not
a God he is a man. WE however expect them to be different
and more honest than the rest of us. These people who commit this type of act have no business being any kind of
representative of anything. The powers in charge have covered and protected these criminals and transfer them to other
churches after they have paid big sums of monies to keep
this hidden. God has his way of bringing these evil acts to life
otherwise we would never find out. These people(priests should be punished just like everyone else. We all pay for our
sins one way or another. Life is full of pain and tragedies. God
does not cause bad things to happen, we do it ourselves.

Why put the emphasis on Catholic Priests only???
People of every race, religion and creed have molested children long before the invention of Catholicism.
OK, Lets say there is no God; shouldn't humans take the responsibility of their inhumane acts?
And don't forget the little girls; they have been molested also. Yes??

I agree with Ray, but it is not just the Catholics. Other priests, Rabi's, etc. also have done it. It is only recently that the Catholics have been singled out and put in the light. As for why God isn't doing anything? Free will was given to us to do either good or evil. This is Man's plague and Man must resolve it.

Yawn. This isn't really much of a revelation.

I'm sure Protestant ministers have been doing it for centuries as well. There are perverts everywhere--Catholics don't have a monopoly on it. The thing the Catholic Church has done wrong is to cover it up and move the priests to new locations where they can start it all over again. But I'm sure you can find parallels in other denominations--the media is just focusing on Catholicism.

I 2nd Catholic Crusader's answer. People constantly post questions like these as if pedophilia occurs no where else in the world, as if we're imagining all the other cases of incest in families, school teachers with students, the fact that pedophilia knows no race, gender or religion, yet the Catholics constantly get the flack for this. Do I sense bias/bigotry here?

God gave us free will. If we chose to commit a sin it's our fault, not his. I've never been molested and I'm sure you havent either so it's hard to see it from the kids side. But it says in the Bible, Ask and ye shall receive it. If the child would have cried out JESUS SAVE ME i'm 100% sure that he would have been saved. We are only human and if you take the human-ness out of us we are nothing. God loves us so he gave us the choice to be with him or not.

What God has done from what I can see is He has allowed the scandal to surface. In so doing Our beloved Church is being purified in the midst of persecution as Jesus had climbed Calvary

I love how "Catholic Crusader" rationalizes institutionalized misbehavior. The only biased argument he has left out is that the little boys must have seduced the priests. Funny how some people will deny all evidence in favor of their strange loyalties.
