Hey!
The best way to start to recollect your dreams on a more normal basis is to start keeping a Dream Journal. Remembering your dreams isn't something that you'll ever have full control over, but this will help.
What I recommend (and what I do) is keeping a Dream Journal on your bedside table. If you wake up in the night, while the dream is still fresh, write down what you can remember of it. You don't have to provide a lengthy detailed summary, just "keywords" from your dream will work.
As you do this over time, I find that you actually begin to remember your dreams better. Plus you have the neat little book to look back on.
Keeping a journal can also teach you something about yourself. After a month or so with the journal you may start to see patterns in your dreams, and learn what you really think, feel, are afraid of, etc.
Good Luck!!

You dream when you are in REM sleep (the deepest form).
Sometimes you will remember your dream, or parts of it if you are suddenly woken from a deep sleep be it by your alarm clock, a partner (to go to work), parent (to go to school) or even the dream itself.
As it is impossible to control when this form of deep sleep occurs it is also impossible to set any of the above waking mechanisms.
There are I believe sleep study centres which deal with such things unfortunately I don't know the names of them or what their selection criteria is, but I do know that many certainly in the UK seek volunteers.
Try google if you can think of the right keywords to find what you're after.

on those times when you remember your dream, record it, or write it down.
Give yourself a reminder of the dream.
I started doing this, and now I have an entire map of the cities I am in, what happened, where I lived, and the poeple that i was with.
It is now so vivid that its like i live another life, and I love it.
Log your dreams.

The only way to remember your dreams, is to wake up during the REM stage (Rapid Eye Movement) of sleep, which is the deepest stage.

It's just luck, really. Some people say that if you're interrupted during your sleep you're more likely to remember the dream you were just having, but I don't know if that's true.

sounds corny, but keep a journal beside ur bed and every time you have a dream write it down really really quick before you forget it, and reading back you can see how they all link together. Its really cool you should try it.

Certain dreams you will only know that you dreamt and others you will remember there is no scientific way of knowing.
