Can anyone help me learn harmony? I have no idea where to start. I LOVE it when people sing harmony, but I don't have any clue where to begin. Help?

Singing harmony always came natural to me, but did not come natural for my daughter, who was dismayed when her choir director placed her as an alto... she had a hard time staying on her pitch when she heard the melody...this is how I helped her. # 1 I had her take her favorite songs off the radio and find the 3rd above the melody with the piano and practice singing on the 3rd, and #2 made her join the church choir, and had her sit between me and another strong alto so she could hear the part. Church hymns are a great way to train your ear to harmony.

Are you looking to write harmony or sing it?
If you are looking to write harmony, then there are books out there to help you with the rules that apply to harmony.
If you want to sing it, there is no better way than to join a choir or church group where there will be harmonies sung by the members. Depending on your voice, you may or may not always sing a harmony line, but it is very worthwhile
