There is no such thing as a homophobe. A phobia is a fear, and I have no fear of homosexuals when I tell them that homosexual sex is an abomination in the eyes of God. I've said it to their face many times, with no fear whatsoever.
Actually, it is the homosexual that has the phobia: They have a fear of facing up to the facts that their actions are ungodly and will have dire eternal consequences. They fear that, and rightly so I might add.
Whoever coined the phrase "homophobe" should be flogged.

Its funny how labels are very attached by others to others that they may create division and easily identify differences by denouncing the individuality of others. I only know one or two "atheists" and they call them selfs such because the reject theism. Theism being the belief in the existence of one or more deities. I think this self labeling is indeed up to them and the label they give themselves seems to define their point of view rather well. Why then is there a need to give another label of some sort that would only serve to please us non atheists as it were? I must also point out that they do not dispute the existence of Christ but do dispute that he was who he says he was, this is not a view held entirly and only by ahteists! I was always taught as a child to respect the views of others and to refrain from creating racial or religious tensions as it could lead to extreemism, or is that just a label that gets thrown on those with whom we don`t agree?

Actually, that's incorrect. A phobia is an irrational fear of something (or in the case of people - prejudice against someone).
As we are neither generally afraid, nor would said fears be irrational given a certain form of theism's track record.
So no, -phobic suffixed words would not be appropriate.

The idea of people offended by homosexuality as being phobic is quite likely an idea that came from homosexuals themselves... (You don't like me because you're afraid)
So the rest of this question doesn't really need to be answered.

It is the homosexuals that created the term homophobic so that they can get media attention and try to sound scary to all. But do we people that disapprove of homosexuality fears the queers? Nope, as long as they don't shove their sexual preference in my face or ask for special privledges I really don't care what they do.
And the same thing goes for the christians. I am not afraid of them. I just wish they would leave me and others like me alone. But they can't they need to ask for special treatment and demand to control the world political structure.
Wow in so many ways the homosexuals are just like the christians.

christians and atheists turn us away. atheists, i understand though, none of them have ever hurt me, they just have their own opinion, which is cool with me, more power to ya! but christians are a diffferent story. they try to force their religions on you (at leasts, alot of the christians on here do), i don't like that. they are not open to the fact that religion is a way to help you survive in life, and know that someone up there is there to help you carry through. they don't understand that. i'm a soon to be muslima, and anyone can imagine the stuff i get.

Thats a different way of looking at it but I dont think atheists are scared or offended by us. We have a belief that they don't have the privilege of sharing, and telling someone that you think their having homosexal relations is wrong and you try to show them the biblical verses, thats just trying to show them your opinion. I don't agree with homosexuality but that doesnt make me homophobic, im not scared of them of offended by them, im just sad for them, that they will never see Jesus or see heaven. same thing with atheists.

A phobia is an extreme or irrational fear of or aversion to something. Being an atheist is the theory or belief that God does not exist. So no.

Not all atheists are necessarily offended by religious people. I am a Christian, and some atheists have told me they have incredible respect for how my faith makes me a better person, and that they wish they could have the same kind of faith that I do.

Quite possible. But homophobia is "taking offense to homosexuality," it is "unreasoning fear of or antipathy toward homosexuals and homosexuality." It is fear or antipathy.
If someone has unreasoning fear or antipathy to religion or Christians, then they would have a phobia of them as well. Theophobia - Fear of gods or religion. Christophobia - Fear of Christianity.

If I'm afraid of apples, I may not necessarily be afraid of oranges. Maybe oysters. If they are large and bulging.
