Just got back from there Saturday- depends what kind of food you want- We had great pulled pork and burgers at the Ugly Dog Saloon, best Muffaletta at Central Grocery, best basic seafood at Deanie's, awesome po'boys at Johnnie's, incredible service and good dinner at NOLA, amazing dinner at K-Paul's, really good gumbo at the Gumbo Shop, all around fantastic dinner at the Pelican Club, great breakfast at Mother's in the CBD, and decent dinner/so-so service at the Red Fish Grill. Food is mediocre but check for beer specials at Le Bayou on Bourbon street, and food was so so, but music was good at Cajun Shack.

Galatoire's. It's everything Antoine's and the others are supposed to be, but aren't any more. And if you like casual and good, there's a bar on Decatur ST. called Coop's (guess it's still there post Katrina). Great gumbo, and the duck and sausage jambalaya is yummy. Mother's is also great, and these are places local go as well as tourists.

My favorite is Irene's Cuisine. It is a little hole in the wall, local place on St. Peter's I believe? Or St. Philip's? It's in the quarter. Haven't checked on it since the hurricane though! Hope it's still there!

Hands down...ZEA's Rotisserie...there's 3 or 4 of them now...best one is at the Esplanade mall in Kenner.... the other one in Clearview mall is excellent, but always REALLY really crowded. The small one in Harahan has a smaller menu but it's the first and still successful. The new on in town, i hear, is awesome. too.
GO To ZEA's ....whenever I'm in town...I go about every 3 days, at least!!!

Pelican Cafe is wonderful for dinner. If you want breakfast Petunia's is fabulous, but be willing to wait. The Coffee Pot is to die for if you want crawfish etouffee the only place that is authentic. Mostly in NO it is about your taste and what you are hungry for.

Wow, it's almost impossible to pick one. And unfortunately I haven't been able to visit as many as I want to, but I'll keep going back to add to my list!
For the overall experience, food, service, atmosphere, entertainment, I'd have to pick
K-Paul's.

Felix's Oyster Bar, down in the Quarter. Don't know what happened to it after the flood.
