Raisens? because "Lowerns" didn't make sense.

However, the word "Raisin" is a different story...
Etymology
The word raisin dates back to Middle English and is a loanword from Old French; in Old French and French, raisin means "grape", while a raisin in French is called a raisin sec, a "dry grape". The Old French word in turn developed from Latin racemus, "a bunch of grapes". The origin of the Latin word is unclear.

Raisins are essentially the dried and preserved version of grapes. they are still dried fruits but since after drying they totally change their looks from grapes they are given the name "raisins". raisin is just another word for a "dry grape"(in french)

Because that is how they are sold. Prunes used to be called prunes and are now called dried plums, just to sell more of them.

they were probably the first fruits to be dried and so needed a name to be introduced to the public market.

when health foods came popular dried fruit did too. but by then all fruit was dried together in packets so they didn't need to name them.

far fetch, but its a thought.♫
