Okay so after picking up a foster fom the vet, she peed in my car.
It was like lake placid!!!
I took her home and took my car to the car wash and shampooed the seat several times. I even went and bought a new air freshener.
The next day it was very hot outside and the heat brought the smell out.
Now its cooler, but the smell is still there!!!!
I dont know how to get rid of it, I have shampooed, drowned it with freebreeze, and added air freshener.
any ideas without getting new seats!? :)

yeah the air fresheners and freebreeze made it worse.
The smell was actually gone...until it got hot.

I'd try Natures Miracle or Urine Gone. I'd SOAK the seat and leave the windows down so the car air dries.

I had to do this when my Tankman vomited all over the truck. I just poured the stuff all over the carpet and left the windows down.

Where have you been? You are MISSED....

I was told about a product by our first vet 8 years ago and it is a doG-send. Plus it has an absolutely hysterical name: Anti-Icky-Poo. What better name for a product for eliminating grossness deposited by our 4 footed kids? It is a "live bacteria/enzyme solution; multi-stain system designed specifically to eliminat urine contamination". (That's from the label.) (No, I do not work for the company.=]) My biggest challenge for this product just happened earlier this month when I helped a friend transport her paraplegic husband from one state to another. The man is in a diaper; by the time we got him to the new Care Home & the staff got him out of my van, he had left a large puddle on the seat.

Once the -er-um-yeeesh- slurry was sopped up, I treated it with AIP and it seems to have done the job! What I did was first a spray and wipe, then I did another heavy spray down and let the AIP puddle and soak into the seat through the stitching, as the original fluids {{{shudder}}} did.

I have had to use AIP for pet stains on carpeting in the house through the years, and it always did the job. This last bit though was the most daunting ever as the waste had had hours to soak into the seat. I was afraid I would end up just junking the seat. Fortunately, I don't have to.

AIP is not cheap, but it is a hell of a lot cheaper than a new van seat. You can get it at the link below if you cannot find it at your local vet. At the bottom of their home page is their contact info, including a toll free number and their email. They should be able to tell you who sells it locally in your area. The web price is more expensive than what I have paid for it locally, but their price includes shipping.

Good luck to you. I smell your pain.

BE CAREFUL with the chemicals you poor on the seat. My friend had a cat pee in her car one day when she left her window down. I told her to use Nature's Miracle. Well, she didn't do a test area. There is a giant ring where the NM changed the color of the seat. If it is humid where you are be sure to get the seat as dry as possible after pouring cleaners on it. Use the standard blotting technique. I then follow up with salt. Salt pulls moisture up, I've used salt on a rug. I poured a giant mound over the wet spot. I used a dust pan to get the majority of it up, then vacuum. Good luck! I hope your car smells better really soon.

Kids - N - Pets. I just recently ran across it since I have a new pup and it works wonderfully. You can use in a steamer or shampoo machine. It's better if you steam clean your seats. I would pour onto seats let it sit for little bit then steam clean it out. The Nature Miracle works well, but I prefer the kids - n -pets it's cheaper (4.95 for 32oz bottle found at wal-mart in the carpet cleaning section) and has a pleasant smell.

I know this won't help the current situation, but since you do foster, you might consider taking some precautions to prevent this in the future. Things like crating a foster, until you feel it will not be a problem and getting covers for your seats if you don't have room to crate.

I hope you manage to get the smell out.

If you can take the car seats out, do so. Soak them with laundry detergent and/or resolve pet stain and odor remover carpet cleaner. Absorb the soap with paper towels and repeat. Once you think you've detoxed the seats, allow the resolve to soak in. Then rinse them with plain water. Soak up as much of the water as you can with paper towels and let the rest air dry.

The hard part is knowing if it went down into crevasses that you can't get to. That could be why you had more problems when the sun returned.

I highly recommend doing one more thing... using Amway Germicidal. You buy it by the gallon, but you dilute it and I used it to get rid of the odor of a decayed dead cat after removal of the carcass, and it worked GREAT. Try it... a link is below for ordering online.

This happened to me once. I poured a box of baking soda over the area where the mess was, vacuumed it, poured a bunch more over the spot, let it sit a couple days and vacuumed it again. It worked quite well, though I still febreezed it afterwards, just in case!

I guess that I'd prefer the smell of urine to this "febreeze fresheners" type of crap.
Use Nature's Miracle, it actually neutralizes the smell.
