WE live in PA and have some trees around us. My cat usually is an inside cat. However he got out the night of 10-21. It is 11:00am on 10-23 and he still isn't back. When he rarely gets out he is usually pawing at the glass doors in the morning. I am sick thinking he was attacked by a hawk or owl. We have both around here. I am so sad because it was my fault.

if your cat is the same size as their prey, then yes they will attack your cat and carry it off. i hope your cat is fine and just out having fun. good luck. dont forget to go out looking for it, take a bag of food and shake it. call the animal control and see if someone turned it in. make flyers to put up or go door to door and give neighbors the flyers

Depending on whether he is fixed or not you will find your answer soon, I feel sure. I have seen owls and hawks pick up many things the size of a cat. However, I have had cats all my life. And I have also had many that were inside cats and then ran off. Even the males that were neutered. I had one run away for more than 8 years and then come home only to spend a few days and pass away. It is in the NATURE of the cat to not be confined. Sorry...but he is probably just galavanting!

You didn't say how big your cat is. An owl or hawk might well go after a kitten, but an adult cat would likely be too big for them. That having been said there are other hazards that your cat might have come across.

I would call to your cat. Also, put up flyers and put an ad in the paper. Check with local shelters and rescue groups. Hopefully you will be able to track him down.

I live in PA also, and owls or hawks are possible , as well as coyotes! But he could just be lost, or maybe he went "catting" if he is not fixed. I am so sorry, and I hope he returns soon. I have 2 inside cats, and would be sick to death if something happens to them!

Possible, but not very likely. Most hawks and owls usually go for much smaller prey. Bigger risks are coyotes and roaming dogs. Get out and look for your kitty. The sooner you act, the more likely you are to find her. Make posters with her picture, look all over the neighborhood (remember she may be hurt or scared and hiding), contact all your neighbors, contact your local animal control agency and all the vets in the area (if she was hurt, someone may have taken her to one). So get off the computer and get busy.

Sorry, but it is very possible.
I live in Western Canada and ALL my cats are strictly indoor cats, despite their backgrounds (some were feral, strays, etc.).
I totally freak out to no end, if one cat happens to accidently get out for awhile.
I worry the worst, have lge. owls, eagles here, along with lots of traffice, rotten kids who definitely are NOT animal-friendly and coyotes (actually saw one late, late dark night a poor 1/2 grown kitty swinging limply from a coyote''s mouth as I was driving. Made me sick).

Please go out looking though and calling him though.
He just may be at a neighbour's (they would not know he belonged to anyone, if he was an indoor cat,... would not be seen in neighbourhood.)
**ALSO, check sheds, locked areas and LISTEN for a "meow or cry" ~~~coincidently, this past weekend a friend called in a panic, his cat went missing for2 days (he called saying I was right, he should have kept "Charlie" indoors)
Well, the cat WAS FOUND luckily,.. got accidently locked in the garden shed.
So please search in places where you think a cat's curiosity may have peaked!

Hawks and Eagles have great vision and see in color. Owls have great vision, but lack color vision (they are after all nocturnal predators. The only way to use color to deter raptors would be to teach them that birds of a certain color are either dangerous to catch or taste awful. The difference you see are probably either due to size of the bird or their intelligence (those animals that cause problems are less likely to be preyed upon again). One way to prevent predation by raptors would be to put up some sort of scrim or shade netting. Raptors like to fly down for the kill. They are not ground hunters. If you prevent the fly down, then you prevent the kill.

He may be having the time of his life hunting or marking his new territory. I hope u find him. My cats sometimes will disappear for a month then come back. Right now Kalie has left to share herself with the neighbors but evidently she will be back. I live on a farm in Iowa no woods around us.

Is he fixed? If he is not fixed he could have went off to find him a girlfriend. Or he could have met up with another cat.
Give it time and he should come home.
But to answer your question yes there can be birds of pray that will catch a cat for a meal.
I hope you find him soon..
