ok ok, complicated question & maybe im being ignorant on some points but...
say you're mormon...you have to keep to the mormon faith or you don't go to heaven?
or christian, you have to beleive in the christian god to go to that heaven....muslim....sikh....islam....and so on
what if you're born mentally disabled and do not have the brain capacity to understand what a god or religion is? are they doomed to the pits of hell because they dont have the ability to understand what it is they are meant to believe in?

Of course. Just like WalMart, they are used as door greeters.
I'm sorry, that was so wrong.
I don't believe in your concept of heaven.
But to play along, if anybody 'gets into' it, it would be children and mentally disabled, no?

I believe the disabled, the unborn who die, very young
children, and those who have never heard the gospel
of Jesus, will have a grace given to them. The Lord
knows what accountability they have. They are not
doomed. Scriptures that imply this are:
II Samuel 12:23, Deuteronomy 1:39; Isaiah 7:15-16;
Jonah 4:11
Also, this one:
He will judge the world in righteousness and the peoples with equity. (Ps 98.9)
Notice, that there will be NO excuse of 'not fair' with God's judgment...no one will argue that their situation is Unfair!

The tissues of the brain decompose with the earth. The contents of the brain are neurons and fat cells that breakdown in the soil (or cremation). True faith is a subtle energy that is liberated and developed and does not decay with the body. So, what you may or may not think, or your capacity for mentation really isn't an indication of survival after death. God knows if anyone lasts out there. Go clean your closets and stop worrying about heaven.

In the LDS faith, everyone will have a chance to accept Christ in the next life. That would include mentally disabled beings. We also believe that *most* mentally disabled people are not accountable for their actions. Therefore, they are considered sinless.
EDIT: Also, in the mormon faith, we don't believe only mormons go to "heaven". We believe in 3 degress of glory and virtually everyone will be placed in one of those.
Here's a good article of what the LDS church believes about handicaps. You would have to read the whole thing.

We believe that anyone who has not reached the age of accountability will go directly to the Celestial Kingdom when they die. That's all children under age 8, and any who are mentally unable to understand what sin is.

We are judged by our actions are deeds. Just like our parents and our gov't, the Creator too has laws and rules that we must obey or be punished for breaking them. That is for those who have the capability to comprehend and know what they are doing.
According to Islam, no deeds are recorded for a sleeper until he awakes, the child until he grows up, and the insane until he regains his sanity or regains consciousness. So a child is not held responsible till he/she hits puberty, nor a person till he is awake or an insane till he regains his sanity.

No one is doomed to hell; hell is here on earth and those who do not fulfill their destinies in this life must repeat their time again until they do but all go to Heaven, and what that is like is whatever makes you happiest, wherever you want to be.
Everyone, whether they acknowledge God or not, have religion or not, have the capacity to understand or not, gets to go to their favorite place in the Afterlife.

You have to have the mental capacity and that is why children get to go right to heaven. I believe the same is true for mentally disabled people.

A mentally challenged person gets saved the same way any other person does, if they are elect or presdestined by God's goodness and mystery of providence.

probably, i heard some people say that those who suffer for God go to Heaven. and maybe by being mentally disabled is their own suffering, by not understanding God is their own suffering. and also maybe, before they were born,God made them metally disabled in order to fulfill His will or maybe He thinks it's better for them instead to beome disabled than facing "normal"problems that we face as normal people.

Didn't Jesus say He wanted ALL the children to "come unto me?"
I don't recall Him limiting the children by disability or anything else that might make them "different" from the norm (what ever that is).
