If Jesus was a Jew, and followed OT laws, then why do the Christians of today pick and choose laws to follow...such as the ones that say we can't eat pork. People will say because since Jesus was crusified, the old laws don't matter anymore, but Jesus himself followed them. And if the old laws don't matter anymore, then why do we follow the Ten Commandments still, as they are in the Old Testament?

the 'Sabbath' day is actually Saturday, and most Christians think it is Sunday. Why did they change that as well?

well, there are two covenants in the old testament. The first (The Ten Commandments- written by God's own finger) were written on stone tablets and placed inside the Ark and are said to be laws to God's children till "time indefinite" (the bible says this in different texts which i will not go into rite now) and the second ( which Moses wrote in a book and placed next to the Ark) were just meant as guidelines to help the Israelites from sinning and therefore being closer to righteousness in order to be saved. The Jews placed these rules in such a position that to them it was a way to righteousness (which is not the case).
So when Jesus died, he put away these laws (which were being abused by the Pharisees) and died for our sins, which is grace, but the Ten Commandments still existed because it was GOD who had written them and the bible also says that GOD does NOT CHANGE and besides the bible also says that till heaven and earth passed away, these commandments would not be passed away.

The body is the temple of the LOrd also because our souls dwell in our physical body and cannot depart from it till our death. So the guidlines in Levicticus help to keep our bodies clean. Which helps us to serve GOD better.

Thats all I can really say rite now. The Laws of Moses (which God dictated) were really just for that generation of Israel as they were travelling to the Promised Land through the Desert and would be prone to disappoinnments and consequently temptation. But can be used as guidelines for our life today.

P.S. Most people think that it was ALL the laws that were nailed to the cross, but for example in Exodus 31: 16,17 it proves that God's Ten Commandments are perpetual
(31:16 Wherefore the children of Israel shall keep the sabbath, to observe the sabbath throughout their generations, for a perpetual covenant.
31:17 It is a sign between me and the children of Israel for ever: for in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day he rested, and was refreshed. )

Jesus didn't neglect the 10 commandments.. but He neglected some laws of Moses.. Moses wrote some laws because the early Jews were stubborn.

Jesus neglected the law in stoning a woman who is caught committing adultery. Jesus neglected revenge. He introduced forgiveness. offer the other cheek.. remember.

Not all OT laws are to be followed until today... God wants love.

Not all christians don't eat pork.. i think they are baptist christians that don't eat pork.. i don't know why they don't eat pork. maybe because it's a tapeworm carrier.

Jesus did followed the OT laws, but he He also taught in Matthew 15:17 that it is not important what goes into your mouth, but what comes out of it. If you believe God created everything perfect! what is wrong with pork!
That law doesn't have anything to do with Jesus Crucifixion. The Ten Commandments are the building blocks of all the laws. Look them over, and you will understand what I mean.

Few laws have been refined. Such as and in the OT, and eye for an eye. in the NT, Jesus taught, that was wrong, let those without sin cast the first stone. To love one another. Not to judge other. among others.

Edit:
Dear Bronze, you got your answer. Jesus Christ did follow the OT. We can eat pork, because it is not what goes in to your mouth that is important it what comes out of it. The OT laws do matter, but some of them are not. Such as the eye for eye rule.

Pigs are actually not grimy animals. Pigs are animals that are often saved in grimy situations. Wild boar isn't any dirtier than livestock or goats. you're incorrect approximately Hindus and Buddhists: Hindus do no longer eat cows, yet eat different meat (in the event that they are in a position to arise with the funds for it). Buddhists eat meat. Jews had a prohibition approximately eating beef, which grew to become into observed into Islam too. interior the previous they could have been precise - there are countless illnesses that may bypass from pigs to people, including tapeworm. that would not be conscious from now on. present day farming has broken the cycle the place human waste (sh*t) finally ends up interior the pigs' nutrients.

I eat pork. Jesus said that it is not what goes into your body that is evil, but what comes out of it...sort of like your judging us.
Do you have proof that Jesus didn't eat pork?
Are you a pig advocate or something? A disgruntled vegetarian or vegan?

I love pork. Deal with it.

Do you want to be able to kill, steal, have sex with 100 different people, lie to and about others, and not feel guilty over it? Do you have a problem following some of those laws?

Jesus told us to treat other people as we want to be treated. Do you have a problem with that?

Surely not!

I think you're being picky and are just trying to find something to attack Christians over. If that is not the case, I apologize. It just seems as you are in attack mode.

We follow the 10 commandments because if you look at them that is just good living, not killing someone, wanting for someone else's wife, stealing etc.. The Lord says this new commandment he gives us, "that ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another."

Eating pork is not something that is forbidden under the new law and we don't have to live as the Jews live in order to be saved. The Lord came for his chosen people (the Jews) but they didn't receive him as their Messiah hence he allowed for us (Gentiles) to be saved through the blood of his Crucifixion and his continued grace

Matthew 15:17"Don't you see that whatever enters the mouth goes into the stomach and then out of the body? 18But the things that come out of the mouth come from the heart, and these make a man 'unclean.' 19For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander. 20These are what make a man 'unclean'; but eating with unwashed hands does not make him 'unclean.' "

Hosea 4:6 my people are destroyed from lack of knowledge. "Because you have rejected knowledge,

Well done please.

no, i am a Christian, i do not eat the pig. i try to follow all of Gods laws, i am not perfect by any means, but to boldly say "i´m better then you, i´m doing it my way, like it or not" i really try not to do that...eating pigs are wrong, they are a filter of the earth, not meant for food.
and who follows the "ten commandments" are you keeping the "Sabbath" day?

Good question....Christians say that they're no longer required to live under OT law -- its irrelevant, they say, since the coming of Christ -- and yet, when the issue of homosexuality comes up, they quote Leviticus 18:22 and 20:13 as though THIS particular OT law (and only this one) was still in force.

Anybody care to explain that one?

2007-10-23 05:04:36 · answer #9 · answered by ? 7 · 3 4

we are not under the law.

Jesus reinstated several of the commandments but added to them

OT thou should not commit adultry
NT don't even look with luck .....clarified

OT thou shalt not kill
NT love your neighbor as yourself
