I use my bike as main transportation. I try do everything. I'll drive if it gets too far, transport things too heavy, nor when it rains. I love every minute. Keeps me in shape and looking good. I'm 53 and plan to ride my entire working life.

I feel really good about it! It's just a win-win situation in most cases. You pollute less, you get a decent workout from it which is healthy for you, and I always find it less stressful. In Seattle, it's an ideal mode of transportation, so long as you don't mind popping your bike on the front of a bus because you can get to basically anywhere that way! It takes a while to become really comfortable on busy streets with cars around, but it's great! I even love to ride in the pouring rain and see the 2-3 others that are still out.

I do it all the time. My bike is my main transportation. I'm five miles from work, so that's ten a day minimum. I average fifteen and have been able to do more than forty miles in normal daily travels.

Living in Arizona helps, with all the great weather. My friends think I'm crazy, but i love it. It's great exercise, and I feel an intense connection to what is going on around me. Traffic doesn't slow me down because I go around it.

Can't imagine life any other way- I don't even own a car or know how drive. Never had the need.

Did it in Anchorage year round with ex wife and her child.
Now I still don't own a vehicle. By choice, and ride everywhere. I Can afford about any car that isn't $$$ but why?
Just got a bike for all occasions LOL and trailers.
It is a little easier being retired.
I am leaving for 6-8 weeks to Mexico by bike on the 1st, then back up around the east coast then back across the US and down to AZ.
When I wasn't retired, I rode to work, the store, the restaurants, and movies.
Guess it depends on how committed you are to cycling.
Only wish USA was as bike friendly as the rest of the free world.

I'll drive if I'm going far or have to move things, but most of my daily trips are only 1-2 miles. It would take me longer just to find a parking spot than to ride a bike.

I love it personally. I spend more time on my bike than in my minivan. In one year, I've put over 10,000 miles on my bicycle. I put about 4,000 on my van in that amount of time and that's picking the kids up from school or driving in the rain. My wife drives her minivan all of the time and she has more miles than I have on a much newer van.

I would love that! I'm to scared to ride my bike around here because people here don't look where the hell they are going. Even walking in a cross walk in front of my childs school, people don't stop!

Where its pratical, its all good! But its no fun riding in the rain and cold and its hard to pick up your kid at school!
