It is sometimes good to think negatively. The main danger is to try to pigeonhole everything into "negative" and "positive" categories. In reality, everything is somewhere inbetween.
Instead of trying to stop yourself from thinking negative, acknowledge what it is that is negative, then also think about the positive side of the issue. Also, realize that some things are more negative than others or more positive than others, or just neutral. The values we give to things are our own values, and not something inherent in what we're valuing.
You don't want to think totally negative or positively. You want to think realistically. Take things from a neutral point of view and realize that everything has a good and bad side to it.

Thoughts are forces of energy that may come to you even if you do not want them. What you do with your negative thoughts is this: talk to them as if they are human beings. Tell the negative thought that you do not have time for it, you do not have place for it in your mind. Then command it to go away from you. It will surely go. But it will come again but then keep repeating the process and within some few minutes, it will go and not come again. You also need to think positively. That is keep repeating the opposite side of that thought you do not want. E.g I am sad will become I am happy. You see when you are sad, it always means you are having negative thoughts. Command the saddening thoughts to go and repeat the affirmation that you are happy----- try it and see.

Throughout the day try to notice the good or happy things. When you wake up in the morning, keep telling yourself it is going to be a good day. Smiling often helps too. Stay away from negativity for a while, such as the news or a negative person.

I totally understand what you are going through. I too have negative thoughts. I have an awesome thought stopping technique. Put a rubber band around your wrist. When you feel that you are having bad or negative thoughts, snap the band. The slight sting makes you think about the band rather than your thoughts. This technique has been used on psych patients for years, when they have trouble with thoughts or voices.
Hope it helps!

Think positively. Polarize the negative thought you just had. Even if you have to consciously force yourself. Eventually positivity becomes automatic.

I agree with Skalite (is that Ska and is that light???). All duality thinking is false because it is ego-based--either to the negative or to the positive. The key is "attachment" to those thoughts--we want something and don't get it and call it negative; we want something and get it and call it positive; we get it (positive) and lose it or it doesn't satisfy (negative). Everything changes moment to moment to moment. "Circumstances alter cases." The suffering (negativity) comes from clinging to outcomes--we want them to stay if they are "positive" or want them to go away if they are "negative." The world is what it is, and the only way to avoid negative/positive polarity thinking (and attachment to "our preferred outcomes") is to recognize who it is that is caught up in the chaos of monkey-mind thinking that is driven by the false self, the ego. Meditation will bring one to a stillness that allows one to "observe" these erratic thoughts, ultimately allowing them to "pass through" the mind without attachment. And the dissolution of attachment or clinging will allow negatives and positives to disappear into the ethers. Only the experience of Oneness will be shown to be true, and meditation will bring one into union with the Absolute beyond duality. I am Sirius

Realize what you're really doing. Negative and positive are merely reflections of desire, and not something one needs to "stop". Really consider your life, your position, your nature. With the proper perspective, on realizes the deliniations we draw are merely that, our deliniations - which have no real objective meaning. Meditate, realize who you are and what you're doing. Do this, and you will realize there is no point in thinking negatively, and that evening drawing that distinction is meaningless.

Tell your self that there is no point doing that its not creative.
I put a cupboard in a room for an 91 year old lady as a favour. I put my drill down and burnt a hole in her new carpet.
I was mortified- But she said thank you it will remind me of a good deed done by someone. How positive is that !!!!

Be aware of all the good things that are all around you and the beauty of nature, don't take it for granted. Everyone has flaws and everyone has positive talents, find your positive side and build on that. Work on having self-confidence.
