What you need is a heart rate monitor!! A Heart rate monitor is something you wear when you work out (not all day) usually there is a strap that goes around your chest and also a wrist band that will tell you how many calories you have burned, etc....

I love my heart rate monitor and its the ONLY way to accurately calculate the calories you burn.

The one I have is a "POlar F4", its desgined to be smaller for a woman... I recommend you check out ebay as you will find it cheaper there. Usually they run $50 - $100 depending on the brand and functions.

none of them are accurate as they do not take the body composition into account. the body composition or the amount of muscle and fat that you carry has a direct effect on your metabolic rate. unless this is taken into account the data from calorie counters is not accurate. here is an example:

person A is 140 lbs and 20% body fat
person B is 140 lbs and 35% body fat

person A will burn substantially more calories per hour than B will as A has substantially more muscle mass.
