It seems to be true that if you are eating fatty foods you will be more prone to feeling bad about yourself. If you're eating greasy or high calorie foods you'll feel gross and fat, which leads to you feeling like your self image is bad, and then you'll start to get depressed because you're fat. It's a downward spiral all because of food!

You posed your question correctly 'mental health' not 'mental illness'. The brain is an organ which is fueled by glucose and maintained nutritionally. A balanced diet is one of the vital factors in maintaining ALL health - and has an impact on many illnesses

yes absolutely but it isnt as simple as unstable mental health being caused by a bad diet. it is much more complicated and scientific than that and will require some research before you can understand how it all works.

yes i think there is a connection. Look at it this way.....if you have a car and do not put water, fuel and oil into the system then eventually it will breakdown now consider the nutrients that our bodies need to function......Our bodies are just machines really and they need a little of everything to keep them functioning as well.......Usually diet is the first thing that gets hit when incomes are low and children especially need nutrients to ensure that their mind and body are functioning to facilitate their learning potential.....This was obvious when working with mothers and children within a women's refuge that children's sleep and learning patterns changed with the improvement to diet.

Absolutely, especially if you have a family history of auto-immune disorders. Diet (not necessarily bad, but eating what one reacts to) can have a profound effect on your mental state of mind.

ABSOLUTELEY! You would be surprised what your body will do to you when you don't give it what it needs. I have chronic Mononucleosis because I don't eat right and it causes me to suffer from depression and panic anxiety disorder. I never had these mental problems until I had Mono. I went to the doctor thinking I was going crazy because I was having panic attacks and wanted to kill myself. Turned out to be mono, but the worst part about it is the anxiety and depression!

I know that in the case of children, taking fish oils in tablet form, or better still, fresh oily fish can work wonders for them in terms of them being calmer and more able to concentrate.
The opposite is true in relation to food colourings. My grandson's behaviour has improved 80% now that he no longer has orangeade.

the foods that we eat have a direct effect on our endocrine system and the endocrine system governs the human body. people that have a low intake of omega fatty acids suffer from various types of depression and mental illness. there is tons of accurate and recent medical data on the subject.

yeah because good food (fruit & veg) has minerals etc which make you feel good about yourself because you are looking after your body and some unhealthy foods contain chemicals which can make some people irritable!!! (not saying that the odd maccy d's will turn you into Jeckyl or anything but is okay for moderation
