My cat jumped up on the bed this morning and i was petting him and when I scratched his but near his tail he flipped around and bit at me. I turned the light on and checked it out, and he has a HUGE lump, like an inch in diameter, right where his tail starts. I cant tell if its a tumor (I had a white cat we eventually lost to cancerous tumors) , or if its a wound that got infected, or if he hurt his tail (my dog sprained his tail once and it swelled up)...
He is an ASH, all black, under a year old. He has been eating mice and birds every day, I dont know if that makes a difference. Im going to get him to the vet, but not until later in the day. Please ease my nerves!

The fact it ruptured and had pus, it's an abscess. Press out what you can of the goo, dab the area with a soapy washcloth then a plain wet washcloth to keep it clean, and check again tomorrow (repeat the press and clean). It has to heal from the inside out, and the abscess needs to stay open to do that. If it scabs over, open it up again or it'll really expand with pus and have to be started all over again.

The vet may want to give antibiotics to help it heal faster.

If your cat goes outside or is exposed to other cats, it's probably a little cyst. Sometimes they get these when another cat bites them... usually on the butt. It's a reaction to the bacteria in the biter cat's mouth. The lump is usually hard and fluid-filled (though it's hard to tell with all the fur) and sore.

It will either go away on its own or it will pop and you'll have a mess. Either way, it's not serious. If you take your kitty to they vet, they might lance it if it's nasty enough. Or they might prescribe antibiotics and do nothing.

Good luck!

you may desire to truly take your cat to the vet. it would possibly not be severe yet you may desire to get your cat checked merely to be sure because of the fact my cat had a lump additionally and it became out to be maximum cancers! She have been given operated and lived a 12 months extra. After that the main cancers got here back and she or he became into too previous and she or he started suffering so I had to enable her go!!

I had the same thing happen to two of my cat's from being bit by another cat just as Rachael described. Two trips to the vet and a course of antibotics and both were fine.

Let us know how what the vet said.

He may have been bitten in a fight with another animal, and that would make it likely to be an abcess. If he won't let you touch it / inspect it, it's impossible to tell. If he's eating / drinking all right, and doesn't seem to be in a ton of pain, things will be fine until he gets to the vet later today. I'm glad you're taking him in.

It's hard to say. My cat had lumps and it was cancerous but my other cat had a lump on his back and the vet called it a fatty lump! It's better not to worry until your vet checks him out, sometimes we worry for nothing! Good luck!

Since he's an outdoor cat, I think you might have a tic that buried itself there. But still get to the vet as soon as you can to get it checked out.
