I have a 2 year old and he likes to go outside and play but it's really cold out and I don't know what to do with him. Any suggestions on how I can keep him entertained? Thanks

My three year old is the same way. Right now since it's been cold at times to when she wants to go out I suggest we paint or color. I've gotten some games age appropriate for her to play and I sit down with her and we play board games. We also read books and basiclly play with all the toys she forgot were in the toybox. Make a fort over the couch, if you have animals you can play dress up with them if they allow it, put on a play and let the kid play a character, let him help you clean house. You have to get creative and think of playtime out of the norm everyday, cause they'll get bored with doing the same all the time. Good luck.

Get a small soft ball or beanbag or small stuffed animal. Play fetch and keepaway. My 2 year old loves that and it keeps him entertained for quite awhile.

Make a tent out of blankets and chairs (or anywhere that is available). Anything is more fun when you are in a tent!

Or get masking tape and outline "roads" and "parking lots" on the carpet (not a good idea on hard floors... trust me, i learned the hard way!) for his cars and trucks to drive on. Sometimes we do this and it ends up being 2 whole rooms worth of "city"!

Puzzles

cutting with safety scissors. Get old magazines and let him go at it. (supervised of course)

Get a piece of wood or other hard flat surface and put one end up on the couch or wherever and make it a ramp for cars to race down. Or it's a slide for stuffed animals.

Even if it is cold could you not just wrap him up really warm? I understand if it is raining, but surely he can still go out if its dry and cold?
its really cold here where I live but this does not stop my daughter running around and enjoying herself - she loves the outdoors. You should not not let your son miss out just because it is cold - kids love the outdoors and its much better than keeping them inside the house all day long.

I have a 3 year old and she loves going outside but the weather is not always suitable therefore I try to find new ways to entertain her... for example

1. playing tea party
2. coloring and drawing
3. watching favorite cartoons
4. talking with her and listening to made up stories
5. reading a book
6. having her cousin over
7. play with her siblings

have fun and good luck

My son develop into ill final week and that i asked his pediatrician the comparable question. She mentioned as long as thy are bundled up properly, and in the event that they opt to play (outdoors or in), enable them to. Their bodies understand what they might do. 50 isn't that chilly.

With my 2 year old we play tea parties, bowling using soft ball at used toilet rolls if you have any, singing, dancing, music (using pots, pans, bottles with rice/pasta), hide and seek, painting, play doh, drawing/colouring, craft, reading, race cars.

let him go out and play just for shorter time and cover him up. Just think will you take your son sledding? It will not hurt him to play for 30 min in 40 deg.

Play hide and seek indoors. My kids used to love playing it when they were that age.
