Seems unloving to me or perhaps I am looking at this story in the wrong way?

Your guess is as good as anybody's.

My guess is, that in the end, when Job stands up to God and asks why all that crap had to happen to him, Job then understands something that's ineffable.

God's apparently vague answer is "Where were you when I created the universe?" etc.

While that's not a direct answer to his question, Job understands that it is as close that we humans can get to understanding why horrible things happen in nature. To me, God is saying, "I had my reasons for setting the world up this way, and for now, you'll just have to trust me on this."

Job showed his true nature then, when he realized that God was wiser than he was, and he trusted that He was loving in spite of all that happened to him.

Job's test WAS whether or not he would still worship God despite what Satan was doing to him. Satan accused Job and by extension mankind of only worshipping God because of what he did for him... what he gave him. Take that away, said Satan, and watch him curse you. So the test WAS whether or not Job would still worship God after he allowed Satan to wreck his life. In fact, Job at the time didn't know it was Satan. He thought it was God himself bringing these catastrophies upon him. Job passed with flying colors, proving we today can do the same.

All these people talking about how Job was blessed with double what he had before, and therefor it was a good thing are SICK motherf*****s.

"Hey... my 4 daughters were killed as part of a bet between God and Satan, but, I got 8 daughters later! Woohoo! Praise GOD that my first 4 daughters are freakin' DEAD! That I'll never be able to see them, or hug them... praise GOD that they had to die because of a bet on ME. Praise GOD that my children have been cruelly taken from life and they will never know the joys that life brings, because... hey! I got twice as many back! So it's a really really good thing! Praise GOD!"

You people are SICK.

In fact you are looking at the story very correctly. God allows Satan to assault Job in every way he can with the exception of taking Job's life. Job was a man who was totally dedicated to God, loved God and had absolute faith in God. All of the things Satan did to him are things one would expect to experience if one came under the curses for not obeying the covenant God had made with the Hebrews. Yet Job knew he had done nothing, and his faith was so strong, and his love of God so strong, that he knew, though his friends said different, that all of this was just a trial. His best friends told him to curse God and die rather than go on as he was, but he held strong to his faith, and in the end God rewarded him with many times more than Satan had taken away from him. It is a story of amazing faith in the face of adversity, and we should all seek to follow that wonderful example in our own lives.

Because Job had a deep and personal knowledge of God where He knew what God would do and what God wouldn't do.
He knew where to place the appropriate blame. He didn't blame God for his troubles...he knew enough to know what was actually HIS fault and he acknowledged his own mistakes. He questioned God..but never charged him.

Although, he didn't do anything wrong..and because of his faith in God and persistence, he was blessed in the end doubly what he had before.

It's a story about perseverance, and never giving up or doubting God when the storms in your life are raging.
He was stripped of every material thing he had...and when everything was gone..he was still holding onto God...because that's where his roots were.
Because God was his foundation.

If that's a legitimate explanation coming from Really then it would seem that God was being unnecessarily cruel. I think you can learn from the story of Job but there is no way I take it literally. Thanks for doing this for Poseidon, by the way. Many blessings!
