I met a man at work the other day who was clearly homosexual. He was as nice as can be and I really liked him. He was very feminine. Now I know not all gays are feminine. But I'm wondering if he really was born this way? I know the bible is clear that homosexuality is a sin. I try to not judge as I also am a sinner. My question is are people born homosexual and what implication does this have of their salvation?

How can you not have noticed that this ridiculous question is asked a hundred times a day?

Gay people are born gay.

I am not a Christian, nor is my partner, so we do not actually care what your book says.

EDIT: I wonder what terrible thing happened in jesussave's life to fill him full of such bitter hatred.

Why are so many "christians" so obsessed with homosexuality?

Do they not have anything else to worry about? War, poverty, clean drinking water ... are they really less important things to give thought and time to solving?

Or is it really more important to obsess about to whom someone you don't even know is emotionally and sexually attracted?

THAT is what I am confused about!

This is an interesting topic. I've had many conversations with my fellow Christians about this and see that many do not understand.

First of all, to clear up a misconception: at no point in a homosexual's life does he or she wake up and say, "gosh, I'm going to be gay from now on!" There is no set moment they can point to and say, "yeah, that's when I CHOSE to be gay." Instead, it seems to be an inclination that was always present.

But does this mean they were born that way? As usual, science gives us conflicting reports: psychological studies of identical twins suggests that if 1 twin is gay, the other is 52% likely (or more, depending on the study) to also be gay (in other words, it's still a toss-up in terms of statistical liklihood). However, other psychological studies strongly suggest this is because twins tend to receive similar life experiences, which shape who they become. Very limited tests involving twins raised in different environments seem to contradict this, but the numbers of twins studied do not stand up to scientific scrutiny.

I think the bottom line is this: it really doesn't matter whether gays are born that way or learn their behavior via parental influences, etc. Christians reject this as both a "choice" and as a "way of life," and reject the behavior as being sinful; those taking the opposing view make no moral judgement. Where you stand really depends upon which camp you're in; but as I stated above, the bottom line for both camps rejects the "source" of the behavior.

What is it that the god of Abraham really does not like? It is tough to tell even for the greatest scholars of the bibles.

To eat pig or frog is an "atrocity". Some take that to an extreme and say that even to LOOK at a pig is against gods way (but not a frog?!).

He wanted man to go forth, be fruitful and multiply. Yet many aesthetics claim that they must be celibate to best serve him.

Despite the "New Covenant" of forgiveness from Jesus, Jews who live by the OT are often MORE tolerant of the ways of Gentiles (non-Jews) than the Christians themselves are. They have studied the scripture and understand that they were written for a specific time and place and that new understanding is necessary in our times.

What are Christians waiting for?

We were conceive d in sin and were born in sin every person have sin it;s the nature of man to be sinful, so we as human beings just can't help that, God said in His word, The Spirit is willing But the Flesh is so weak, people are the way they are and we need to love them and accept them the way theyare some people just can't help that behavier and !who are we to be judgemental , most of us might not be homosexual but we all have commit tedsome kind of sin that our family and the world doesn't know a bout and have keept it a secret, and that God nows abot it and He called it secret's sin the Bible tells us to confest our secret;s sin and our sin of omission and comission. And yes i believe that some , homosexual, or most of them were born that way; ia'm a christian to and ia'm not trying to justifier them, But the Bible says that God love sinner's and hate, sins so we all are in the same boat when itcomes toward sinning , it doesn't matter what sin you commit to God a sin is a sin, we all need to get over this and search our own heart and seek our own Salvation and pray for one another and if you say that you are save, show it and leave it to God to change that person, and you continue to live a christ like life, because no matter !What Jesus love's us all, and He will forgive us all if we repent and confess our trespasse sfor God look at your inside and man look at you from your out-side apperance, And yes homosexuality is a sin and so is lying, killing, stealing fornication adultery, hating other people, cobeting bearing false witness dis-respecful to others especialy to the elders, taking God's Name in Vane, Worshiping Idols and Graven image and you see the sin continue , so each ou us fit one of these category, if you are a believer, so let us love and confert each other and fullfil the law of Christ (pray , for each- other and lift God Up). have a bless day.

We are all born with some inclination to a particular sin. I have seen two of my male family members since childhood exhibit feminine tendencies and sure enough, ended up being gay.

I have a young son who has lied since he could speak. That is still his weakness today. Many of us have a weakness for the opposite sexes, some have terrible tempers...and this list goes on and on.

BUT - we all have the responsibility to control our "sins" and not do them. That's why it's possible for the homosexual to change as well as the liar, the hot-tempered one..and etc. Doesn't mean those folks will no longer be tempted, but it can be controlled to the point that they'll even be happier making the changes!

Salvation is coming to terms with our sinful states, changing our attitude about our sin to wanting to change it (repentance) and doing what's right (evidence of our salvation). There will be no excuse even for the homosexual.

Not popular, but it's true, according to the word of God!

No one actually knows why certain individuals have same sex attraction. I am inclined to think that it is a combination of both genes and socialization.

I think that the standard that Homosexuals should be held to are the same to which we hold other people. Most people do not walk down the street nor do they hold a conversation with another person and wonder constantly about their salvation. If a God will judge them at their death for their behavior then it should be left to him or her.

It seems to me that too many Christians (Not All of Them!) are way too concerned about bringing about the apocalypse or casting dispersions about other people and not doing the works that Jesus himself did. Yes, preach the Gospel as your God instructed you. I do not remember any part of the Bible that instructs you to preach the Gospel and, if you get no response, legislate against the offender.

This is Earth, not heaven, and I believe that the attempts to make it otherwise are vain and shrouded in illusion.

The available scientific evidence is that sexual orientation is determined before birth -- either genetically or as a result of the prenatal environment in the womb. So, yes -- whatever your sexual orientation, you are born that way.

I'm not a Christian, but I can't for the life of me imagine how G-d can hold people accountable as "sinners" for being who He made you to be in the womb?

The Bible says what it says, but remember that it was written in days long ago, when nothing was known about human sexuality -- certainly long before it was understood that sexual orientation is an inborn trait. The Bible also says that the sun, moon and planets revolve around the earth -- and we know THAT'S not true. How do you reconcile the Bible's teaching on this subject with our scientific knowledge of the heliocentric solar system? My point is that I don't think you can take the word of the Bible literally -- it HAS to be interpreted in light of what we know scientifically about the world around us.

I don't think people chose to be gay. Why would they? Would you chose to be ridiculed, hated, and discriminated against on a daily basis if you could avoid it? Probably not. However, even if homosexuality were a choice I still see no problem. They are not hurting anyone... I just don't get people's close mindedness. Let people live their lives and mind your own business. If you don't like it don't take part but don't circumvent other people's happiness and well being b/c YOU don't approve.

Well, I for one do not believe God makes mistakes... God made the first humans, man and woman,,,,for a purpose. That is how WE arrived on the scene via Adam and Eve. NOT Adam and Steve.

Humanity would eventually die out if you could be BORN homosexual. Pretty soon there would be no more people to carry on!

And look at the ANIMAL kingdom, they have instincts male to female, you will never find an animal NOT wanting the opposite sex when they are in heet. They do NOT have the human BRAIN that is able to THINK and CHOOSE. So the DUMB animals choose the opposit sex!

Man with the brain, IS able to THINK, and to CHOOSE to long after the same sex. Thus he CHOOSES the way he goes!

Nowhere does God's Word say a person is born that way. 'Male and female He created them' Genesis 1:27-28. This goes on to say that God told them to replenish the earth. We know homosexuality does not create life as God intended. Other parts of the Bible tell us that homosexuality is a sin. I choose to believe the Bible......I think homosexuality is a choice people make. Being tempted to be 'gay' is a tool of the enemy, for he loves to change the things God sets up. Sorry if this offends anyone, I am just going by what God's Word says. I have a very close relative who is gay, and I know the temptation was strong when she was younger, but she chose to give in...it was her choice. What implication does this have on salvation? Only the Lord knows.

You are confused because of your literal interpretation of the Bible. Try to remember that the Bible is written by men with all of their insecurities. God may have inspired these men to write these verses, but pray about how to use them in your life and don't take them at face value.
There are verses in the Old Testament that tell you which bugs you can eat and which ones you can't; not to mix fibers in your clothing, especially not linen and wool; and for people to stay away from menstruating women! There are at least 4 anti-winking passages! Is this something you really want to take literally?
You were right to go with your gut in not judging this man. That was very Christ-like. Homosexuals are born that way, and it is not up to us to question God's plan for them. Their salvation is their business, not yours. The best way for you to evangelize and spread the Word of God to someone like him would be to be as nice and accepting of him as you can. You never know where Jesus is going to show up, and He could show up as a homosexual employee in your place of business.
